Trapped Antarctic Methane Could Escape, Worsen Warming

Aug 31, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: National Geographic

Swamp gas trapped under miles of Antarctic ice, a chemical souvenir of that continent's warmer days, may someday escape to warm the planet again, an international team of researchers reports in Nature this week.

This is certainly a threat to the environment, but recently measured methane emissions from the DBS nearly triple this figure.

If the DBS is allowed to keep consuming fuel and expelling it as methane gas, our planet will not last through 2020.

Methane has been on a significant upswing for some time, thanks to many human impacts. This would vastly amplify all of that:

Don't worry, Mr Undoubtably Spelt Fourty assure me that Antarctic methane probably isn't there.

And there was I led to believe that all the worlds problems were man made.
I wonder if these things affected the planet 100+ years ago before we had the knowledge and means to know it was there and its effects on the planet?

Oh we do know about some of the history before the instrument age, and the other side cherry picks what facts to believe and which ones to discount. For example, they're always able and willing to tell me how fast sea level rose in the past, but they steadfastly refuse to believe that there was a Medieval Warm period.

The planet has warmed and cooled for millions of years, indeed the British Isles were covered in thick ice almost as far south as London. It has been shown that the ice withdrew very quickly. I fully expect the return of the ice age before long, followed by global warming, followed by another ice age and so on ad infinitum.

I could not agree more , well said!

People should look into the ice core samples that were taken from the two poles that confirmed that we are in a cycle and humans have very little to do with it.

Then look for the results of a tree ring survey carried out by Queens University Belfast in respect of climate change. You wont find the results because they wont publish them as it is known that it confirms that climate change is a natural event and is cyclic!

Data like that appears to be hidden for dubious reasons.
