As a regular cyclists I am not urprised at this incident. Bus drivers believe they own the road and take no account of the longer stopping distance for cyclists especially in wet weather conditions. I have been regualarly overtaken just before a bus stop by inconsiderate drivers who expect you to mount the pavement, crash into the back of the bus, or swerve to the right into passing traffic, to get out of the way. Alternatively the only other option we cyclists have, is to be forced into the curb, and hope the bus leaves a few inches of space so you are not crushed and thrown onto the pavement. I remember one incident where a cyclist stabbed a bus driver, for such bad driving. Although this is not the way to deal with the situation, bus driver training seems the best way forward. The highway code advises road users to drive in a way that does not cause other road users to swerve or brake sharply. This seems a simple enough principle to learn.

It was pure luck that the cyclist wasn't killed, because he easily could have been. The bus driver went crazy and deserves to be in jail - I'd have given him a longer sentence.

I cycle, drive and walk in London and although cyclists can be as bad car drivers sometimes, they don't deserve to die...

17 months is a pathetic sentence, for what could quite fairly be called attempted murder.

when cyclist learn to obey the rules of the road i might have some sympathy. They ride like idiots, never stop at red lights and don't care whose right of way it is. The bus driver shouldn't have gone to jail, he should have been given a medal.

Mrs Bus hasnt got a clue. Most riders are fine and obey the law, they DONT deserve to be cut up, sworn at, spat at, driven into, screamed at or buzzed by anyone in or on another vehicle.

What people like Mrs Bus are actually saying is "I'm a dangerous road user, I don't care about others, do as makes life easier for me". It is incitement of sorts. It is also selfish and arrogant an attitude to have.
