The president should take note of BsBuster's suggestion that Ukraine actively organize its huge Diaspora - in Kazakhstan and elsewhere - as a way of exerting pressure on the government for concessions to Ukraine.

Sunday schools and cultural centers are nice and important, but unless that bond has a pragmatic element to it, it will eventually die away.

Russia is actively promoting its Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine and in countries with a Russian Diaspora in order to exploit the political potential that may offer. Mere concern about the spiritual well-being of fellow Russians does not even make the list.

The Ukrainian ethnic territories in Kuban , Kursk, Belgorod ,southern Belarus were administered by the Ukrainian SSR between 1922 -1932 during the 'Ukrainianization - Korenization phase '. In 1932 these areas were administratively incorporated into the RSFSR and the schools stopped teaching in the Ukrainian language and forced Russification began. It is estimated that up to 15 million ethnic Ukrainians in southern Russia and southern Belarus have been lost in this way .It is kind of irritating that these people have been denied knowledge of their antecedents and now are often vigorous opponents of Ukraine . Ukraine should concentrate on these areas in Russia and should try to recover some of these lost souls or at least make them aware of the past connection to Ukraine before all memory is erased.
