Whoopi And Elisabeth Spar Over Jesse's N-Word: Things got heated on 'The View.'

Full story: www.eurweb.com

*"The View's" Elisabeth Hasselbeck shed tears during a heated exchange with co-host Whoopi Goldberg during a discussion about Jesse Jackson's use of the N-word in his Fox News interview debacle. Goldberg, who earlier in the broadcast used the N-word repeatedly, argued that the word is only as powerful as a society allows it to be and advocated for using the word to give it new meaning. Jesse Jackson was the one who symbolically buried the N-Word, along with the NAACP. Then he uses the word to attack Obama on FoxNews of all places. I listened to some of what Whoopi was saying, and what Elizabeth was saying, and I have to side with Elizabeth on this one. It should not be used. Period. I've never heard it used in a complimentary way. Whoopi made some good points, but basically said its okay for blacks to use it, and not whites. You can't segregate language. That makes no sense. Its not okay. Blacks can't have words just for their race, and then get made if whites have words just for their race. And I know whites have their own words too. The only way we can heal racism, is to let go of language that stereotypes and demean, and the "N-word" is not a word used to show anyone respect.

Whoopi is very funny, but not very nice. I will still watch her movies but I won't take her political commentary seriously.

I have to agree with NOT using the N word periord!
I don't care who uses it should be put in one of those categories with using the word (MF)it is a slang that negroes used but it came from whites who tried to be hurtful with it.

I really think and wish they would put this word down for a minute, I do agree with Whoopi in this sense it is just a word, and it cannot breathe unless you say it! So stop it and find something else to say.

To your statement you need to add the word, some. I for one, am not amused, entertained, or supportive with her usage. And I as an African American, am not alone in that feeling. She may have the right to say/use it, I also have the right to condemn it. What we all need to do is to allow that group of folks to band together and see just how small and insignificant in the scheme of things that they really are. Let them hear the sound of TV sets going "click!"

Black America does not want the "N" word to disappear. That is why blacks always bring it up about every 6 months, so as not to let it die.

Elisabeth Hasselcrack is a Princess and she has no clue what life is like outside her little picket WHITE fence. Whoopi explained it perfectly.

They have tried to say different words for years, but the "N" word has a nice ring to it.

As a white person, I am appalled by the ridiculous comments of the white people here. You obviously do not understand oppression. Since white people still have a lot of white privilege we must choose to never use the N word. In our hands it only serves to insult African Americans. My African American fiance disagrees with Whoopi's opinion. I firmly maintain that it must remain a debate among black folks only. Just like men have no business telling me that calling me "little girl" isn't insulting. The oppressed is the expert in her/his own oppression. Period.

There...you see?...Anyone can make idiotic comments on these forums, but it doesn't make any of us credible. Especially not you.
Actually I am white middle class and live in suburbs. I wasnt trying to prove myself "credible" to anyone. Hasselcrack has no idea what life is like outside her perfect little elitist "WHITE" world and for her to comment on it and proclaim she lives in the "same world" as black people is ludicrous.

I look it the same way as the B word. If you are a woman and one of your girlfriends says to you, "Hey B*tch whats up" it is different than if a male calls you a B*tch. Same thing with the N word. Who says it and in what context it is used makes ALL the difference.

I've got to side with non-use. To me, the word's always been synonymous with "property" and nobody deserves to be called that either.

I just think Whoopi is a mean, unhappy little girl that gets away with it because she is hot. that's also the only reason she still gets work in hollywood. That honkey Elizabeth can just shut up!

OK Misha, Let me ask you, do you think they want to stop the oppression? NO NAACP, No Black Colleges, no leg up on the competition for jobs? AND.... they are the ones who call each other those names. It shouldn't be said by anyone.

Whites cannot use the n-word, but its okay that blacks can, what????
I am sooo confused.....
Is an asian person allowed to use this word? How about native americans? I mean give me a break!!! Elisabeth is right, it should be about the children PERIOD!!! Telling 6 yr old caucasian Suzy Q that the N-word is a bad word, never use it, but turning around and telling 7 yr old black Shaniqua that she can use it??? Doesn't make sense to me....I am confused.

We as a family find this issue frustrating. My children as well as myself were raised to not use this word because it is offensive. When we moved back to the NE they came home after their first day in the high school and middle school amazed at the language in general used in the hallways but especially the use of the "N" word. The word was being used by the black kids not the white kids, as the white kids would get a detention for using it. Teachers and administrators look the other way when a black kid uses the word. Which to me is condoning it. I never thought much of Jessie Jackson and think even less of him now; his behavior does not set a good example for either black or white kids. Sorry Whoopi to say it is ok for one race to use a word and but not another stinks of racism

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Gemini

Grit your teeth as Mars turns retrograde, as things annoyingly don't go to plan. Certain people are going out of their way to be difficult. Is an older relative throwing the proverbial weight around and telling you what to do? The greater the gap between your ages or social status, the more irritated you'll be.
