'The Wire' was taut, piercingly honest
#2 Mar 9, 2008
The Wire ranks with the Sopranos and Deadwood as "must see tv". Simon has done something others can only dream of emulating in his realistic depiction of the modern urban wasteland. Cops, thugs, laborers, teachers and pol's all caught up in the struggle to over come the ravages of poverty, crime, and urban violence. The newspaper segment hits home as well. The business is on the ropes with online news and advertising rendering it a dying industry. But the saving part of this series is its stark humanity that struggles on despite the odds.
