What? No "Shark?" Haven't seen a thing about the show being cancelled, but it's not on the schedule. How can that do that to super actor James Woods? Egad.

Moonlight did consistently win its time slot! So from where is this issue of sagging ratings coming? Isn't that the goal to win the time slot? Friday night at 9pm is the death slot and Moonlight prevailed! This is such an unsuspected blow to so many fans. I am so disappointed in CBS. I started watching Ghost Whisperer because of Moonlight.

Yesterday, after the news broke, I called CBS to voice my concern and they kept saying nothing was confirmed yet and we wouldn't know till this afternoon. My complaint is if they did the dirty deed and it is all over the news, then why not own up to it. I still keep thinking I am going to wake up from a bad dream and CBS is going to say they are giving it a 2nd season. This show has so much potential and after surviving a turbulent start with the writers' strike and the behind the scenes issues, it still won its time slot consistently.

I think the entire Nielsen ratings system is way out of date and not representative of what people are watching. Out of all the thousands of people on the fan boards, I do not know of one that said they are a Nielsen family and have their vote counted. There should be a way for the networks to obtain actual viewing data from the cable and dish companies to have more accurate and representative reporting.

Please, please CBS, reconsider this decision. We are begging you to look at the facts. Moonlight has potential and is starting to hit its stride. It is winning its time slot consistently, the cast is awesome and they won the People's Choice Award, Alex was voted sexiest Sci-Fi guy, they have won poll after poll on the Internet, and the fans promoted the show with blood drives, food donations and donations to the Red Cross and garnered positive media coverage for CBS in the process. All of these things should add up to a renewal. Why is it these things do not count?

Tom - Yes. Shark was cancelled. It's in the same story with the moonlight cancellation that's linked to this story.

Becky - Friday night 9 p.m. is NOT a death slot. Close to Home drew more than 10 million viewers in that slot two seasons ago and *it* was cancelled. Moonlight was nearly three million viewers lower than that. THREE MILLION. Those are the facts. They're simple to read. And CBS also cancelled Shark, which averaged several million more viewers. It's a numbers game.

Shark was cancelled. James Woods is a class act and a good actor. Too bad they filled the rest of the case with beautiful, sexy women and great looking men. Too far fetched. Premise was good.

Why even get involved in new shows since they will be canceled at one point or another.

Maybe SCI-FI will consider a Moonlight pick up.

Why even get involved with human beings, since they will all die at one point or another.

It seems that CBS would rather try its luck with new dramas rather than renewing old ones (Moonlight, Shark). Lets see how that plays out.

Each edition of Survivor is separate and unique, to that end has a separate title. This fall, it will be called, "Survivor: Gabon - Earth's Last Eden." It's unfortunate that the proper name isn't in the article because there are many who could be interested from the title alone and would not otherwise hear it.

Request - The official CBS press release announcing the schedule for the 2008-09 season refers to the show that airs in the 9 p.m. slot on Thursdays as "Survivor." Because it is a schedule intended to project for a full TV season, that line-up encompasses both the upcoming Gabon "Survivor" but also whichever location "Survivor" finds itself in come the spring. It's not the "Survivor: Gabon - Earth's Last Eden" time slot. It's the "Survivor" time slot. In stories that refer to individual seasons of "Survivor," we always refer to the individual seasons by location for specificity.

Speaking personally, I have my doubts that after 16 seasons on the air, many people are going to see the headline "Survivor: Gabon - Earth's Last Eden" and decide that this is finally the right time to tune in.

They chose smug frat-boy Jay Mohr over lovable teddy bear Mike Birbiglia? What are they thinking!

I've heard rumors (unconfirmed) that people who are "permanent" Nielsen families (as opposed to those that are chosen to fill out the books for one week) are instructed to NOT let anyone know they are Nielsen families. I suppose it has to do with not wanting other people to begin hassling the Nielsen families to watch shows they don't normally watch, just to help out other people.

Anyway, if this is indeed true, you wouldn't hear anyone (on a fan board or elsewhere) admit to being a Nielsen family.

I'm still keeping my hopes that CBS will pick up Back to You, maybe for midseason. It would go great with their other sitcoms.

I've been enjoying these Price is Right primetime specials, I wonder if they'll bring them back sometime next season (maybe on Friday nights again if The Ex List doesn't hit big?

What? No "Cane" with Jimmy Smits? Haven't seen a thing about the show being cancelled, but it's not on the schedule.

Poor CBS. They tried to do something other than mindless procedurals (CANE, JERICHO, MOONLIGHT) and they didn't get CSI-like numbers. FAILURE!

They got horrible numbers! Yes, they were all failures. And none of them were very good. Cane was a mess, Jericho was by the numbers, and Moonlight brought nothing new or special to the table. So not only did those shows have low viewership, they were LOUSY shows with low viewership. I think FAILURE about sums it up here.

Bout time AMAZING RACE returned...considering the time slot problems CBS had this year, this show could have helped them out.

Zap2it's Daniel F.- Obviously you're the man on the inside, so I'm not going to sit here and say I know better than you. However, I will point out that "The Amazing Race" is included on the schedule, and to the best of my knowledge, CBS has only picked up one more installment. So officially, that schedule cannot last throughout the year.

As far as having "Gabon" in the Survivor title make a difference, "Survivor: China" saw an uptick in ratings and its location appeased many who were growing tired of seeing so many seasons set on islands in the South Pacific. Even if there aren't new viewers tuning in, there is a good six million or so people out there that have stopped watching in the last three years. With the intriguing locale that Gabon is, some may want to come back. For those who aren't familiar with Gabon, the subtitle of "Earth's Last Eden" can at least open the door.

In the end, what Survivor really needs is the attention. The media still treats "American Idol" and "Dancing with the Stars" like royalty, considering anything to do with either show to be newsworthy. Granted, they are higher rated shows, but the whole process is a bit cyclical. People want to tune in to whatever may be water-cooler talk, and it is easier for a show to be water-cooler talk when there are so many stories about it plastered across the internet. Somehow, unknown B-list celebrities trying to dance the mambo and the absurdity that is Sanjaya has become more valued that witnessing an ordinary school lunch lady experience a one-in-a-lifetime visit to the Shaolin Temple. I certainly cannot fault Zap2it for this, as it is one of the least offending parties. So I suppose it is time I shut my electronic mouth and let it be.

I'm hoping that too, but CBS still has a lot of comedies on their schedule right now along with Rules of Engagement waiting for midseason. Hopefully if one of CBS's new sitcom fails they could bring it back but theirs a very slim chance of that.
