We cannot and should not ignore laws just because either the person violating the law is famous or that so many people are "doing it".

We have a simple remedy - you don't ignore the law, you change the law if it offends you. This is the problem today with immigration law. If we don't collectively agree with the present law on entering and staying here legally for whatever reason, we elect people to Congress who feel the same way we do and we convince others already in Congress to work to change the laws - not ignore them as if they did not exist.

Cal. Cat -

You are 100% correct in what you've said. But you should read the book 'The I Chong' which goes into detail about his charges and they way he was prosecuted. What he was charged with was not illegal by California law at the time. He had just been through an IRS audit of his business (with no indiscretions found). He isn't even actively involved in the glass business where these charges originated, but the Federal Gov't black-mailed him by threatening his son, who does run the business. He essentially took a plea to keep them from persuing legal action against his son.

I totally agree with what you wrote, and our responsibilty in legislation that becomes law. But Tommy Chong did get railroaded in this instance, just because of who he is, and that he has spoken out against the current (Fed.) administration.

This "dope smoker" pales in comparison to the real major league drug dealers. Organized conglomerates that spends hundreds of millions on advertising their often dangerous products to the public. These white collar dealers get away with it by pumping more millions into the campaign coffers of our elected officials. Want to see an example of their work? Just watch the ALL the commercials during the national evening news tonight.

Most everyone in Washington has been there about 50 years or has a relative who has been, and they seem very happy to keep getting kick-backs from big tobacco, alcohol, and big drug companies which would become direct competitors with marijuana if it was legalized. I doubt very much that the legislators want to lose all of those free trips and perks, so I don't think the laws will change anytime soon. Government for the corporations, then the people.

You sir, are a bloomin idiot! So what if he smokes dope! Marijuana should be legal, to an extent, Im not saying we should allow it in public or public places. It should be regulated better IMHO. If the govnmt regulated it, it would get this country out of debt and we could do away with having to pay taxes. Maybe only the city, county, or state govnmt, should profit from it along with the people that would distribute it. Just sayin, could be possible. AND, have you ever known anyone dying from an overdose of mary jane? Its the ones without common sense that you have to watch out for, those are the ones that give the herbal plant of nature a bad name. Politicians suck!!
