Gene Roddenberry started the famous badge of the A shaped star on the Federation,and it came from Flash Gordon. Flashes symbol was a sun star and also a thunder bolt. The Thunder bolt has almost two zigzags and the star trek star is a mutation of half the thunder bolt of one zig zag. Good thinking Roddenberry. Star Wars and Star trek are children of Flash Gordon.
