Who are "they?" The 1.5 billion Muslims in the world who live in scores of countries, including millions of Americans living in your own country? You think Muslims in this country want the same thing as the al-Qaida terrorists who I think we would both agree we must continue to fight until they are utterly destroyed? What do you think of our support for Iraq and Pakistan, both Muslim countries? If all Muslims are the same why are we training Iraqis to fight al-Qaida and why are we in Pakistan supporting that government against the Taliban? What is it called when someone thinks that more than a billion people spread throughout every corner of the world must all believe the same thing? You tell me. I am most interested in your thoughts on this.
Don't forget, we also trained Osama bin Laden and look at how that worked out for us!

If you are of a mind you can tell me (us) how these religions have been practiced peacefully throughout the world at all times in human history (since their inception). Are you saying there have never been violent Taoists (By the way, what kind of Taoism are you talking about?) or violent Buddhists (and what kind of Buddhism are you talking about?)? Are there any countries in the world in which Buddhism is a majority religion but which have nevertheless undergone violent conflict in the last several decades? I can think of at least one. Would this mean, do you think, that Buddhism is more or less violent than any other major world religion?
No. Once again, violence is perpetrated by people. The Shaolin Monks may be famous for their self-defense skills, but they only use them for that, self-defense. Their Faith does not tell them to go and commit violence.
One may argue that the United States is a Christian nation (I don't agree, but for s&g, let's go with it). Since its inception, the US has been a part of two World Wars, Vietnam, Korea, The War of 1812, a Civil War and many other wars, battles and skirmishes. Hell, the FOUNDING of the nation involved a war. Does that mean that Christianity is inherently violent? No. It means that circumstances arise that drive men to fight. Sometimes these men are men of Faith. But they fight independently of their Faith, for the Faith tells them not to fight.

Can you tell me yet how our opinions differ on this issue that you have taken up with me? Thank you.

I'm not sure that we do, but questions like, "Would this mean, do you think, that Buddhism is more or less violent than any other major world religion?" keep me from saying for sure. From questions like this, it seems like you're still under the impression that there are certain Faiths that are more prone to violence. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

We agree on this. I, like you, believe that no major religion is intrinsically violent or non-violent; it is all in how religions are interpreted and practiced by human beings. While at one point in time and in one country or another a religion may be practiced peacefully, at another point in time, in another country or under different circumstances, it may be practiced to include violence. I agree that no religion is intrinsically more violent than another and my question about Buddhism and Taoism above was meant to illustrate that. I do not think that these religions are necessarily more peaceful than others, thus my follow up question about them being practiced peacefully at all points in time throughout human history.

I think you came in to this thread while I was challenging some other people and got the wrong impression about what my opinion on this issue is. "Name one peaceful world religion" was my challenge to other people who were being critical of one religion in particular and calling it a religion of violence or, rather, mocking it as a "religion of peace." I set out to argue that no religion is inherently more violent than any other; it is all up to how people practice them and the circumstances under which they are being practiced. So, I think, we are actually in agreement on that. Thank you for the opportunity to make myself absolutely clear on this. Be well, HP.

I can't stand the "South Park" show and have only seen snipits of it here and there. This should be a light bulb moment for anyone still thinking that Islam is a peaceful religion. Its goal has been and always will be, to win converts through intimidation and force. This is America, a country that stands for freedom of expression and belief --which is why Islamic Jihadists are so bent on destroying our nation. Get it?
YOU ARE CLOSE BUDDY. BUT NO CIGAR!
FIRST OF ALL SOME FACTS...
#1- THE KORAN IS AFRONT TO G-D AND THE SINGLE MOST EVIL THING EVER WRITTEN BY ANYONE...IN IT, IT CLEARLY DECLARES THAT ALL MUSLIMS HAVE A RESPONISBILITY AND A BLESSING FROM "ALLAH" TO KILL BOTH JEWS, AND OR ANYONE ELSE WHO EITHER DISCUSSES, DRAWS, OR SPEAKS POORLY OF ISLAM, MUSLIMS, AND IN PARTICULAR MUHHAMMED.
#2- IN SAUDI ARABIA TODAY, RIGHT NOW, THE PENALTY FOR BEING CAUGHT IN THE COUNTRY HOLDING A BIBLE, EITHER NEW OR OLD TESTEMENT, IS DEATH BY BEHEADING!
#3- THE SAME IS TRUE IN IRAN
#4- MUSLIMS, ALL OF THEM, ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM ON THIS EARTH. THEIR FAITH, WHICH IS IN FACT AN AFRONT TO ANY JUST AND TRUE G-D, IF SUCH A THING CAN EVEN BE SAID TO DIFINITIVELY EXIST IN REALITY...IS A DIRECT CHALLENGE TO EVERYTHING DECENT AND HONEST IN THE CHARACTER OF MANKIND.
#5- MUSLIMS, THE GOOD ONES THAT DO EXIST ON THIS EARTH, CONSISTENTLY SAY AND DO NOTHING WHEN THEIR BROTHERS AND SISTERS RAPE AND MURDER INNOCENT HUMAN BEINGS AND THEN CLAIM IT WAS "ALLAH'S" WILL. THEY STAND ASIDE AND CLAIM INNOCENCE WHEN IN REALITY FOR DOING SUCH A THING, THEY ARE AS GULITY AS THE MUSLIMS WHO CARRY OUT THEIR MISGUIDED AND PATHETICLY TRAGIC VIOLENT ATTACKS ON ANYONE THEY SEE FIT.
#6- THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND OR ANYONE ELSE WHO LIVES IN REALITY THAT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN ALL OF THIS IS MUSLIMS REFUSAL TO ACCEPT THIS ONE BASIC FACT WHICH THEY THEMSELEVES HAVE PROVEN OVER AND OVER IN THE PAST 2 DECADES...THAT MUHHAMMED, FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES...IS WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE
A FUCKING MONUMENTAL PIG FUCKER!!! AND IN THE END THE ONL;Y THING THAT MATTERS ON THIS EARTH RIGHT NOW MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE,
IS THE ERRADICATION OF ISLAM.
IT HAS TO BE ERRADICTAED FROM THIS EARTH IN THE EXACT SAME MANNER THAT NAZISM WAS!!!
AND NOTHING LESS WILL EVER BE JUSTIFIABLE!!!
AND IT'S GOTTA HAPPEN BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE,
CAUSE RIGHT NOW...
THE REST OF THE WORLD AND THIS FUCKING DISGUSTING EXCUSE FOR A "RELIGION" ARE AN A COLLISION COURSE THE LIKES OF WHICH THIS EARTH HAS NEVER EVER SEEN BEFORE OR PROBABALY EVER WILL AGAIN!!!
