Bill Maher is entitled to his opinion. The question that I hope the film will address is this one (haven't seen it)- because he asked a few people questions, and they answered incoherently or incorrectly, does that mean that there isnt a correct answer? Does that mean he has it?
The problem throughout the ages has been that we as a church (speaking about Christianity) are not as familiar with the truth as we should be, so when people like Maher approach us, we are ill equiped to defend or explain the hope that lives within us.
To my understanding, the early church was called Christian not by themselves, but by outsiders who noticed how much they acted like Christ. I look at Maher as someone who serves as a constant reminder that we have to know what we say we believe. As Hank Hanegraff always says, "be so familiar with the truth that the lie cannot fool us..."

There comes a time in one's life that you question God, different religions etc... Instead of attacking each other put it to the test. In the bible Jesus clearly states that he is the way, the truth and the life NO MAN can come to the father if not by him. Therefore ask God in Jesus name with true honesty and with great faith that his plan for you will be done. I've seen it in my life, in the life of my nephew who was destined to die several times by his doctors only to find my mom's constant prayers stating God is the healer and guess what? this year he turned 17. What I am saying is give yourself to him and watch what an awesome God there is and ask in Jesus name.

from the article:[William Donohue] "gave Maher a backhanded compliment.'I understand he takes an ecumenical approach,' Donohue said.'He attacks Jews and Muslims, too.'

And Mormons. And Scientologists."

Ummm... PLEASE do NOT list Scientology alogside Catholicism, Judaism, Mormonism, etc. Scientology is NOT a "religion". It has no deity, no prayers, no clergy, nothing that could possibly be construed as "religious" by any rational thinking person. L. Ron Hubbard (a two-bit science fiction writer) started out by calling his facile "Dianetics" philosophy a "therapy", then decided he could make more money by calling it a "religion" and going for tax-exempt status. And certain idiots went for it!!

What he does frequently point out that is useful not to lose sight of is this, the irony of religion sgainst religion war. With sides praying to God to assure the successful killing of the other. When all religion teaches killing is wrong, but it is twisted and distorted into some holy cause to kill those who don't share the same beliefs.

I think it great someone stepped up and made a movie against religon. All our lives we've been told that god is great and invisible and we shouldn't question it at all. There are a number of religons in the world, chances are someone is wrong. Do we really need a book to tell us killing, cheating, and stealing is wrong? It seems more people have been killed in the name of god than any diease or accident. Theres more hate and discrimination in religon than there are actual practicing what the books actually say. At the end of the day it doesnt matter if you pray, recite verses, or go to church it will not effect the outcome of your day, month, or lifetime.

GLAD TO SEE YOUíVE GOT RELIGION
© 1970 Loudon Wainwright III

Glad to see you got religion
Iím glad to see youíve gone to God
Iím glad to see youíve straightened all your lines
And youíve evened out your odds
Iím glad to hear you say ďIím happyĒ
Iím glad to hear you say ďItís goodĒ
Iím glad to hear you say,ďFinally Iím doing
All the things they know we shouldĒ

Me, Iím still in trouble
Sorry, sick and sad
Me, Iím still in trouble
But thatís alright Ďcause Iím
Glad to see youíve gotten careful
About the things you eat and drink
Glad to see youíve gotten choosy
About the things you do and think

Iím glad to see youíre getting so adept
At all your mystic magic tricks
Iím glad to see youíre standing on your head
And youíre chopping with your sticks
Iím glad to know your psychic power
Is being put to proper use
Iím glad to know you donít discharge a drop
Of your procreative juice

Me, Iím still in trouble
Sorry, sick and sad
Me, Iím still in trouble,
But thatís alright,Ďcause I'm
Iím glad to know you donít get raunchy
Iím glad to know things are in hand
Iím glad to know you have decided
This will be your last life stand

Bill Maher is a comic and I take everything he says with a
grain of salt ! He thinks he's being funny with his act and he offends many people doing it ? I suggest that if you don't want yo
hear his commie gig turn him off or MUTE you sound on your TV.
That way he won't get the hairs on you neck to stand up !
We truly have more important thing to concern our self with ?

A similar argument could be leveled against Buddhism - and the similarly appropriate response would feature...

Bottom line is that unless you've been told directly by some deity - exclusive of any human intervention - what is what, then you are a con-man's victim.
