It's not on yet here on the West Coast, but I'm anxious to see how they wrap it up so I thought I'd start a discussion early.:) What did you think??

I should clarify, great acting, great musical score, good dialog... but story wrap sucked!!!! I would have hated alien life forms less!

I was let down. It was too "pat" of a closing. I expected more of the show than what they gave us.

But to see Kate in the black dress and heels! OMFG!

I knew they were dead, loved the ending, funny , I watched a very old film about people on a train, and they didn't know they were dead...until the end, everyone was happy.

The end reminded me of that old movie from 1990 “Jacob's Ladder”.

Why did they give Lost such a weak ending? The way they killed the smoke monster was so boring.

Did you see the dorky smiles everyone had in the church? They were looking at the ceiling and the walls and had such a cheesy smile on their faces as if someone just farted?

The writers lied in the end it was about purgatory! Maybe the island should have been a spaceship. It would have been more exciting than the snore fest the last 10 minutes was. LOL

That's what I was thinking. I feel like I have seen this ending before. It was not original, creative or satisfying.
Do a google search about movie endings and see how many had endings were people did not know they were dead and were about to go to heaven or a "better place".
Lost's ending has been done millions of times before so no way the writers can tell us their ending was original or worth the bother.

Only fools were enthralled by this cheesy, sappy ending!

If the writers were such big fans of the Twilight Zone why couldn't they give us a cool, shocking Twilight Zone ending?

No, instead they give us a weak M. Night Shyamalan wussy ending that we have seen millions of time before.

The ending was not original, creative or something we have not seen tons of times before. Weak, crappy writers!

When they kept showing the view of the airliner breaking up over the island, that kind of let me know they dead. There's no way that type of in flight break up is survivable but in excepted quantities.

There was a story, from 1950s or 60s, of a flight attendant that survived an in flight break up, supposedly she rode a piece of the aircraft to the ground and lived to tell the tale.

What happened with Penelope and Ben being dead, and they weren't on the plane?

Yeah, it couldn't have been a less thought-out ending than if suddenly they all woke up and it was a dream. The end.
With all the ad revenue coming in for this finale, they could have hired BOTH James Cameron and Stephen Spielberg to create the most awesome ending ever. After all, Lost was for Sci-Fi fans. We didn't need a "Touched By An Angel" ending. We needed an Avatar ending.

The didn't all die in the crash.

Jack's father explained it to him pretty well. What happened on the island was real.

The whole "sideways" world was where all the characters found themselves after they died, regardless of when that happened. Some died in the crash, some on the island, some after they were rescued much later. Time and space was irrelevant in the flash sideways.

They came together in the end because they needed each other to be able to let go of their life and move on.

They were not dead the whole time. Also, you know that Hurley and Ben lived longer and were on the island together for presumably a long time because Hurley tells Ben that he made a great number two. We didn't see any of that on the island that we watched. It happened between Jack dying in the bamboo and whenever the last of them died.

Also...

For comparisons sake.

I find it more akin to a mashup of the finale of "six feet under" where we get vignettes into the last moments of each of the character's lives and the episode of M.A.S.H. where Colonel Blake gets in his chopper and heads off home, only to have Radar come back a few minutes later and tell the rest of the people there that his chopper had gone down and he died before he could get home. That sort of emotional twisting.

It only matters because you care about the characters.

I watched the first two episodes of season one, and concluded "Lost" was the worst excuse for a scripted program I had ever seen. Each was just one hour of solid yuppie backbiting and sniping. There's forty hours of that at work each week, and couldn't stand to see it on TV

I never never wasted my time watching another episode, and am glad I don't have to listen to my co-workers yapping for hours about it each week.

Well, for what it's worth, here's how I would have ended it:
The Man In Black (MIB) was banished to the island by an advanced extraterrestrial civilization. Jacob was sent also by the ETs as MIB's warden and rehabilitator. Jacob attempts to recruit, through the centuries, inhabitants to the island who will assist with his rehabilitation of MIB. The island is equipped by the extra-terrestrials with an electromagnetic space-time barrier (to keep MIB in and outsiders out) that is later subverted by the Dharma initiative (One of Jacob's mistakes) and then by MIB and his minion, Ben. Flight 815's passenger list is Jacob's last-ditch effort to bring the island under control by assembling all of his hand-picked co-rehabilitators in one time frame and one location. It fails. So in the end, the extra-terrestrials are forced to "set things right."
