MERRILL SHINDLER: Lido still stuck in a `Nightmare'

There are 8 comments on the Daily Breeze story from Mar 23, 2010, titled MERRILL SHINDLER: Lido still stuck in a `Nightmare'. In it, Daily Breeze reports that:

Earlier this month, Lido di Manhattan was given the full Gordon Ramsay treatment on the famously foul-mouthed chef's TV series "Kitchen Nightmares" - a weekly Fox network exercise in humiliation, debasement and free-floating sadism that restaurants across America regularly sign up for.

although the food at lido doesn't knock me out, our group has always had a pleasant experience with Jaclyn the bartender. witty without stooping to the lowest common denominator like many other barkeeps in the area. i'm sure she knows that hef is a wheat beer.

Well Gordon gave them the tools and left it up to the owner to make her restaurant succeed. She needs to hire a real chef to run the place and fire the staff that walked out on her during dinner service!

lido's atmosphere, friendly staff, and good food are much better combination than corporate feel that Houston's has. I would rather go to the place where servers and bartenders actually remember me....and my favorite dish or drink..... And, by the way I do like Houston's food but I just think there is little more to the whole "dining experience" as you "critics" like to call it.

Don't agree with your opinion. Lido looks so much better now then before. Your comment "who've traded warmth for a decidedly chilly interior" makes you sound like my grandmother. Lido's new interior looks so much cooler, and more hip than previously. This is 21st century......

Lido has a good food and much friendlier atmosphere than Houston's. They didn't play Sinatra when I was there but I do enjoy hearing "I did it my way" once in awhile. I do agree that Houston has good ribs.

I like Lido. They have many events (wine tasting, flamenco and salsa nights, etc) that are fun to attend. There is almost family feeling every time I go there. Merrill sounds jaded....

I have lived in MB a very long time and have been going to Lido off and on since it opened. When it was under the ownership of Ron Guidone, I mostly avoided it. After that, I thought it was pretty good with good service and good food and reasonable prices. Since the makeover, I have been twice. The first time I was a guest and so didn't say anything to anybody but told myself I would not be back. The second time a friend had heard about the makeover and wanted to try it. I figured I would give it another shot. No more. The prices have gone up by an incredible amount. I also had the crab pasta and Merrill was lucky to have found a few strands of crab. I really didn't see it. And I happened to like Fiesta-ware - I use mine frequently. There are too many other places in the South Bay where the food is better and the prices more reasonable. I did find the service staff very kind, but I still want good food when I dine out.
