To this day his best album. Honest good art rock. No mushy heart-break/love songs.
You must not have listened to the lyrics of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road... heartbreak from first chord to the final wail.

sample lyric: "Maybe you'll get a replacement-there's plenty like me to be found. Mongols who ain't got a penny, sniffing for trinkets like you on the ground..."

The first album I owned was the soundtrack to Bye Bye Birdie. Not sure the first one I actually purchased myself, though.

Of all the important issues facing the people of this nation, this fool is asking, what was your first album. What kind of BS malarkey is this

Mine was also Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John. What a fantastic album. I used to stare and the drawings by the lyrics and wonder what he meant. "All the Girls Love Alice" totally confused me. Just the other day I heard the title song and thought that nobody writes songs with lyrics like,

So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough

Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road

<sigh>

Mine was MC Hammer's "Please Hammer Dont' Hurt 'Em." I was probably around 9. I am completely obsessed with so many different types of music now. haha. Everybody needs someplace to start.
