I have to say I agree with the stereotyping in tv and movies. You just don't see a lot of run of the mill guys who are gay on tv. Its always the overly fem flaming lisping classic stereotype persona that you see. Its not really healthy for gay youth, I my self never felt that I fit into the gay culture because I wasn't a screaming queen.

It wasn't until my 30s that I came across a documentary called The Butch Factor that really opened my eyes as to why I didn't feel I fit in. We really need more diverse depictions of glbt people in tv and movies. Show the next generation that we come in all types and styles, and you don't need to drop one lie for another just to be accepted.

From the article:

" ... One pal compared today’s gay TV types to a new kind of blackface ... "

They are just holding our stereotypes up for mockery. This is proper for a comedy writer.

But where are the rest of us?

There are some regular guys who are gay on SMASH - working in theatre, of course, but Knicks fans...

Wasn't there a shortrun independent series a while back about a gay private detective? I remember that it needed some better writing and a bit more budget, but it treated the gay main character's orientation in a pretty ho-hum fashion.

We could do with more of that sort of programming.

We have always been the most lovable people on earth.. As such we have also been amongst the most persecuted.. Hate is far more congenial to an unhappy majority..
