I never knew why elenor donahue left the show--she was fresh from father knows best and was a brilliant actress- seems as if she was fresh enough to have lasted the 8 year run of andys show-what happened??

She left to start a family with Husband, Producer Harry Ackerman. They raised 3 boys together (including children from both their first marriages), During those years Elinor did a variety of projects (although on a smaller scale) including Mulligan's Stew, Please Stand By, and guest spots on numerous shows and acted in plays all over the U.S. and Canada.

I can't stand this woman. She is so over the top and just in your face with her fake perky acting style. She drives me up the wall the way she bounces up to people like some horny Mississippi leg hound and just blathers in their faces on screen. With Andy Griffith, I always expected her to start humping his leg with her over eager desperate to be loved freakishness that carries with her in all her acting. Can't stand her a bit.

Linda Young, like so many other Canadians, is an idiot, or should I say a dyspeptic moron. Elinor Donahue's 'Miss Ellie' was and is exactly the truth of what the classic American girl really is; especially in 1961. Perhaps in Canada no one's happy,(who would be?), but in small-town America everyone is. Donahue's characterization was touching and perfect. It rang true then and still does 50 years later. Canadians are not Americans, no matter how they ape us. Born in Liberty we live, they only exist. Elinor Donahue was and is the quintessential American girl.
