The fact that people can get on here and run their mouths about something they have no clue about just baffles me. I work at GG and all of these things are just ridiculous lies! I can tell you right now that I DO NOT work there for the money. I make the same amount of money I was making when I worked at Wal-Mart. The difference? I LOVE my job. I would do anything for these girls. None of you know anything about where these girls came from. Some of them have horrible pasts. Golden Girl provides them a place where they are safe. They have a meal on the table every night. They have a warm home and they have clothes. They are provided with the therapy they need if necessary. They are provided with the medicine they need if necessary. Golden Girl does everything they can to assure these girls have normalcy. That is all these girls crave. They want someone to love them and for their lives to be normal. They do have rules. If they do not follow the rules, there are consequences. And trust me, these rules are enforced. Golden Girl is a home for these girls. Most of them have more here than they have ever had. They are very very loved here. Even our most troubled girls are loved. They are not just written off and sent to another facility. I can promise you that. These girls came from unstable home environments where many of them did not feel loved. Some of them were probably outcasts in their community. It's sad to think that, in a place where they are supposed to be safe, they can still get online and see people that know NOTHING about them talking crap. They still are "outcasts." That is pathetic. As a community, we should be building up these girls. We should not be putting them down, especially on a public forum that they have access to! You should all be ashamed of yourselves for badmouthing these girls. They are just trying to make the best out of a bad situation. They learn the behaviors you speak of from their environment. Not only their home environment, but from their community. If you want to see a difference in them, do something about it. Try to help them. Don't just sit behind a computer and trash talk. That does not make their situation any better. All it does is reinforce what they have been told their entire lives. That they are worthless. That there is no reason for them to be here. And this is just not true. These girls have so much to offer. But because of people like you, most of them are too scared to try. They think they will fail. And I will do what I need to do to assure them that this is not true. I, as well as the rest of the staff here, believe in each and every one of them.
They are nothing but trouble, theives, and know how to use the system.

Anything that these girls may do has been learned. These are learned behaviors. As is your ignorance.

Worked there and left of my own volition. ANYONE who truly thinks that place is a good place or a "God send" please list a way to contact you because there is a prime piece of farming real-estate smack dab in the middle of the Atlantic I'd love to sell you and you can open up a home just like GG on it and actually a more humane one. You see drowning them instead of exploiting those that can be and making the ones that can't be even more miserable would actually be nicer. The people who have mentioned them using trips that have been paid for/donated and intended for the girls for their own family trips without a single girl from the home going are 100% true. I know this because at one point shortly before I left (and one of the many reasons why I did) I was the one spending half my work day stuck on the phone with the travel agency. As for looking the other way about drugs, smoking, and drinking it is hard to look the other way or not know what is going on when the staff is the one providing all of it. When i worked there you would have been hard pressed to find a single employee that could pass a drug test or sobriety test at any given time while being at work but they were very giving and shared most of their substances with the girls because they used high school drug dealers the girls introduced them to so they could get their fix cheaper. When I reported that this was going on I was told and I quote "it's hard to find good help for the wages we are willing (willing NOT ABLE) to pay and I am sure they wouldn't let the girls overdose so just ignore it. It's probably safer they're doing the drugs and drinking with the staff because if they weren't they'd find a way to do it anyway, probably get arrested and then how would we look in the media?" NO LIE! I didn't even know how to respond. I could go on all day! They had a poor girl there named Sarah that was the outcast and I almost understand teenage girls just get catty and you kind of expect someone to end up getting the short end of the stick but in a place like that I thought that is what they were there to be protected from and certainly wouldnt expect the staff to instigate problems and pick on the weaker ones worse than the girls but that's what happened. Poor thing was scared to death of the dark and she was bad to cut herself and I am not lying or exaggerating when I say that I know for a fact some of the staff would barricade her in a dark closet for kicks just to hear her scream and pound on the door trying to get out and when they finally did let her out she was usually sent straight to her room like she's the one that did something wrong and more than once they gave her a razor (supposedly so they wouldn't have to waste time getting it for her for her shower later even though none of them were to have them in their rooms or in any room except the bathroom and while being reasonably monitored) and she ended up with stitches several times after things like this and never an investigation, no one got fired, always got chalked up to she stole the razor even when I and a couple other staff made it very clear what actually happened. Only staff that ever got fired was a girl that was a RECOVERING addict and attended AA/NA religiously and tried to help some of the girls with drug problems and took them to meetings and constantly was reporting the staff that were allowing the girls to drink, smoke, and do drugs and even getting drugs delivered there and sharing with the girls but she got fired for "being a bad influence on the girls since she had been an addict". Believe what you want but I know first hand all this and much much more goes on there and calling the state won't get you anywhere, I tried, apparently their either involved also or flat out don't care. This place is a grade a scam and living Hell for most those poor girls. That is why a lot of them run away, not because of their past. Their past was Heaven compared to this place. It's pathetic, sad, but true!

I was there a few years back and I was taken well care of. I didn't know of any staff that were on drugs. There were some staff that wanted to treat us like we were in prison but they left or got fired. I was always treated with love and kindnes.I never smoked or was given cigs from a staff. I tried gettting cigs from them but as always i was told no. i think the ex staff got fired and want to say bad things about them.

Honey, I worked there for years before I finished my degree and got tired enough of all the embezzlement, chaos, lies, and mistreatment of the girls to leave. Everything I said before is 100% true, I did not get fired - I quit because I couldn't take it all anymore, and I kept in touch with a couple of the few staff members that were actually good people and continued to work there (and watch all the things I mentioned continue to happen) for quite a long time after I left. Now, if by some miracle the entire management staff was replaced or had a change of heart or the state finally got off their butts and started making sure that place was ran properly then maybe things have changed. But, things like that went on for years and I'd put my money on the idea they still are operating under those conditions. So, either you never really lived there or at least not for very long (because I will admit they tried to follow rules and regulations with new girls until they could make sure the girl or the girl's family wouldn't turn them in or cause problems for them- once they determined they were clear to do what they wanted is when the chaos began), you were one of the few girls that managed to stay oblivious to what was going on and actually got treated correctly, or a miracle really has occurred and things really have gotten better (which I hope but I doubt). If you really did live there and had a good experience there then be very thankful because I know for a fact that for many that isn't the case!

I believe you have lost your mind. I lived there and have never been mistreated. There were some staff that was on drugs and they were fired. I was treated well by Rene and others. I know for a fact that what you are saying did not happen and I know for a fact that some of the staff that got fired who claim they quit are spreading a bunch of lies. I know for a fact that they care for them girls and I know for a fact that the girls are well taken care of. I still call them and I know others do too. I bet you are one of those staff who got fired because you were no good. I bet that you were one of those staff who were on drugs. Why in the hell would I call and talk with the staff. Why would other girls call back? Do you honestly think if we were mistreated we would call them and also consider Golden girl as our home?. I have not heard or read any negative things from an ex golden girl. In fact, I have read a lot of girls standing up for Golden Girl. We were loved and we were accepted. If it wasnt for golden girl i would have NEVER went to the beach or any where else. It takes alot of money to run a house hold and it takes a hell of a lot of money to run a group home. You will one day answer to the lies you are spreading. If the girls were mistreated so bad then why leave them? I mean, how could you possibly turn your back on them? I ll tell you why. because the girls arent being mistreated never was and never will be. You left because you got fired!!!!!

Been there, your stories are the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. I would love to know where you got your fictitious information. Must be the drugs you gave to the kids that got you fired.....
Anyways-------GGGH has saved many lives of young girls. They are an active part of the community. Anyone is welcome down there for a tour of the facility, interview with staff.
Of course working with a max of 24 teenage girls can be hard and its often hard to find responsible and mature women to mentor these ladies.....
I would recommend if you have proof of your allegations that you notify the proper authorities instead of hiding behind your computer. Make sure you have the proof....Im assuming you dont, or you wouldnt be hiding behind TOPIX, you would be saving a teenagers life.

I used to live here when I was 16 until I was 18, and I can tell you now all of this is true. The women who run the facility, Renee Harrison, Julie DeMattie, and Cecilia Ross, are all liars and cheats! I hated living there because they were never consistent with their rules and regulations. And would force girls to participate in fundraisers to "help" the group home. If the girls refused to attend they would be punished and then certain staff would rub it in the girls faces that they were in trouble and couldn't do or have things. All they do is load girls up on "medication" and steal money!! And the smoking and alcohol use, true! There were even times certain staff would smoke WITH the girls when transporting them places. This place was a joke and I was happy to leave when I turned 18. There are so many better places out there for girls that need true help.
