Dark Shadows History

I am watching the Beginning of Dark Shadows. The family history states that Jossette was born in 1830 when the second Collinwood was finished. It also shows that she died in 1853 or so. Another difference is that the portrait near the entrance was of Benjamin Collins. This portrait as I know is of Joshua Collins the father of Barnabas. Also, Jossette arrives to Collinwood during the 1795 flashback. This is 35 years before the family history shows. The only familiar portion of the past was that Jeramiah built Collinwood and married Jossette. But then again, when mentioned, Collinwood was built as a wedding present for his bride Josssette. Why did they change history? Was it because of different writers conjuring up new stories? Why did they not just research what was already written?

That question has been bothering fans for years. Long story short. They had to make Barnabas a more sympathetic character thus the flashback to 1795 and the re-write of the story. Also Anthony George was let go from the show so they had to do away with the Jerimiah character. Why they put the story back 35 years? I don't know. I think its because of the witch trial story, by the 1800's that angel would not have flown.
