WHAT'S HOT: Long Beach, a star of screen and commercials

FILMING SEASON: We're not going to say anything bad about "CSI: Miami," because the show, featuring David Caruso and his eminently removable sunglasses, brings plenty of filming money to the ersatz Floridian town of Long Beach. Full Story

don't get too excited. it's like watching paint dry. lots of standing around setting up scenes and what not. go on the the universal studios tour. that's fun.

Something is filming at Lakewood High School, the signs say 'Hungry Man'. Not sure if that's literally a Hungry Man commercial or what.

I've been really close to when they were filming CSI: Miami a few years ago. It was fun. They marked the scene with stand ins while the actress was sitting across the street in a robe. They filmed the scene then broke things down for the day I think. They're usually filming downtown between Broadway (after Long Beach Boulevard) and Alamitos (street). There's a parking lot of Broaday and Long Beach Boulevard. If it's full of trucks, dressing room trailers then they're filming something near by. You have to look for bright yellow signs with initials of some shoot in black letters. They'll usually have initials then point the way for crew parking. Sometimes there are white police cars with green Miami-Dade County painted on the sides or the SUV that says, "Crime Scene Investigation" on it. They could film over by Alamitos breakwater too as I've recognized this in some scenes. You just have to drive around Long Beach looking for the yellow and black signs pretty much.

Your right they’re filming today, but Tim would never mention that because Tim looks down on Lakewood. Tim actually wrote in one of his columns some years ago that the only thing he knew about or had experienced in Lakewood was that he took his car to be fixed there. True story.

Ford also filmed in Park Estates a few weeks ago; Ford Focus commerical with an African-American family. They kept going around the block while I was walking my dog, and pointing at her, saying how cute she is. I'm sure that won't make it into the commerical, but I'd like to think that she was one of the reasons there were smiles on the "family's" faces.

Don't forget the Miller Light commercial weekend before last at Broadway and Alamitos.

It's wonderful that local businesses and whomever make bucks during filming, but when you live in a neighborhood that attracts a great deal of tv shows -such as the East Village where I live - it is a big pain in the a$$ when the crews tape off 20 parking spots at once and park grumpy, bored cops at each end of your block.

They should seriously think about handing out $20's to the residents of whichever block they decide to close off for filming as compensation for being irritating.

Ya hear me, Dexter & co.?
