OK you, you are ill informed. Mickey and Davy were actors. Both had appeared on TV before the Monkees hit TV, Davy in England and Micky in the USA. BUT Mike and Peter were musicians, they both played guitar and Peter could also play the banjo and keyboard. Check my facts if you doubt me.

you forget that they made albums of original material they played themselves. they may have started as a fake band but they ended up becoming the real thing.

Get YOUR fact up to date: Jones was both an actor AND singer who before the Monkees had cut his own album: Jones debuted on the Hot 100 in the week of 14 August 1965, with the single "What Are We Going To Do?" The 19 year old singer was signed to Colpix Records, a label owned by Columbia. His debut album "David Jones," on the same label, followed soon after. In 1967 the album was issued in the UK, in mono only, on the Pye Records label. Davy played 8 instruments, but on the Monkees it was not needed, which was why he played tambourine and sang.

Same with Mickey Dolenz: actor/musician: Acting credits most notably were "Circus Boy" and "Mr Novak," but he also played guitar and sang with obscure rock and roll bands, including "The Missing Links" and "Mickey & Bonnie." Dolenz was attending college in Los Angeles when he was hired for the drummer role in NBC's The Monkees--again, his guitar prowess was not needed so he played drums and sang.

All musicians; all 4, everyone knows that. Wise up and do some basis research before acting like you know something about the Monkees the rest of the world didn't know in the last 40 years.
