How long does it take to become local?

Dec 23, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Honolulu

It's always fun when national entertainment media tells stories about Hawaii. This October, Comedy Central broadcast an episode of South Park entitled "Going Native." In it, one of the young characters learns that, although his family now lives in Colorado, he was born in Hawaii.

No offer necessary. 400K will satisfy me right down to my boot tops. I'll even thrown in my new tractor.

Your words, haole bigot:

"Yep, it's racist as hell. Look at the bumper stickers "keep hawaii hawaiian" what a bunch of Pacific KKK nonsense. Imagine if someone had a bumper sticker that said "Keep New Jersey White"
"many people think so out of island ignorance"
"I'm guessing you have been around the world from Kauai to Maui."
"it isn't used much out of fear of angering the Al Sharpton crowd."
You may strike a conciliatory tone now, but look where you came from just on this thread alone.
Shame on you for calling the kettle black.
Yep, you were the rainbow coalition before I came, right? you assumed I was white. Look around at some of the bumper stickers. You must not drive (take the bus perhaps). Yes, I know' I'm a racist. Perhaps if you've ever been outside of the pacific islands you could learn something... And playing slot machines in Vegas doesn't count :)... I can here it again, I'm racist..... Ok "island man"

Oooo. Hit a nerve, did I?
You stereotype, judge collectively and exclude based on prejudices just like everyone else. What you perceive is a personal attack is not focused on you, per se. Yet your ego will not let you admit the truth of it: Hawaii is no more and no less racist than the mainland. It is simply that the majority there feels put upon here because they are not top dog.
Your words are your own undoing, and you speak with forked tongue.

No nerve, I just figured that if I was going to do the time, I mine as well do the crime.:)

I wouldn't say Hawaii is the most racist place in the U.S. I don't think it is. But you gotta admit that those bumper stickers are quite racist and they would probably obtain some media coverage if they were somewhere else involving some other race on the mainland.

I wouldn't single out Hawaii either, any isolated island(s) on the planet are going to be more prone to such behavior. For example, Muslims in the U.K. aren't exactly hated upon, the vast majority go about their business just like anyone else, but I'm willing to bet if a few Muslim families moved to an overseas territory of the U.K. Such as The Falkland Islands, they would probably face some level of ostracism.

I think there is known perception in America, thanks in part to the entertainment waves, that by just mentioning "Muslim", a majority think that they are atomically part of terrorism.

It's called an iPad. Typing on it can be a pain. Atomically should have been automatically. I can't tell if you are joking but if not, please learn the difference between "your" and "you're"

Since your logic points have devolved to petty typo policing, "Pacific" is capitalized when naming the ocean, and there is a difference between here and hear (among other things one can blame on "there" iPad).

But this claim of yours is just ridiculous:

My assertion is that racism is everywhere equally because it is a function of human interaction to judge others--often unfairly (just as you are doing) based on experiences, observation and in-group sentiments. You, on the other hand, want to point fingers of blame, while failing to acknowledge what's happening "back home" because everything is honkydory there as far as you can tell.

You just don't get that.

Would you also agree that "locals" whatever that means, are within their rights to revile the dickhead, condescending, obnoxious, rude, demanding, loudmouthed convertible driving Haoles who expect respect without having to earn it?
Yes they do but they need to stay within the law because those haoles have no problem calling the cops and/or their attorneys..In fact, a lot of them ARE attorneys. LOL

There is a lot of truth to what you're saying. I don't argue that. I never said everything is "honkydory", but the topic was Hawaii (Kaua'i) and how long it takes to be a local. If the topic was about the Detroit Metro area, then I would tell you that things aren't "honkydory"

In fact, one of the most segregated states I've ever lived in is Michigan.

Oh, the haoles are supposed to fight three or more guys at once, while they are thousands of miles from home, while the cops do nothing but tell them to move on.

Or they can possible end up like that gangbanger who got shot by that State Department Special Agent at the Mickey D's during Asian Pacific Summit back in November of 2011.... I guess he really wanted a "carry out".
