How long does it take to become local?

Dec 23, 2012 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Honolulu

It's always fun when national entertainment media tells stories about Hawaii. This October, Comedy Central broadcast an episode of South Park entitled "Going Native." In it, one of the young characters learns that, although his family now lives in Colorado, he was born in Hawaii.

My only assertion is that Haoles in Hawaii who experience bigotry are feeling what the rest of us have felt elsewhere for decades.
Turnabout is fair play.
The shoe on the other foot.
What goes around comes around.
Instant karma.
What's sauce for the goose...
As you sow, so shall you reap.

There are none so blind as those who shall not see.

Exodus 20:5 "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me..."

So, the Torah and Bible indicate that it takes three or four generations for people to move on from the sins committed by the ancestors. Seeing as how so-called "locals" only wrested power from the damnable Haole Elite during statehood (late '50s), I'd say the good books are pretty accurate if Haoles broadly gain acceptance as "local" by 2029.
Still got 16 more years, brah.
Meantime, I go back to my original assertion that one can be accepted almost immediately through working toward understanding, respecting "locals" and being nice.
Short version is that almost all "locals" have many Haole friends, even the JOJ variety. If you don't have "local" friends, maybe it's you.
Just sayin'.

I'll list one irritating "trait". Ever come up to a "road work" site where two lanes must merge together? There is ALWAYS some jerk that screams up the empty lane, and won't let the person merge in turn, as every other driver has done? That will almost always be a white guy, probably driving a BMW SUV, most likely with California plates. But nevertheless, it's a white guy that does it, almost every time. They impose their bullshit, stress-filled lifestyle on the rest of us just by driving like they own the road.

Yes, I cringe when I see it, but it is what it is. A buddy of mine is like that and it drives me NUTZ. Talks very loudly and insults people, I'm surprised no-one's cleaned his clock. His favorite saying when something doesn't go his way is "Fukkking Hawaii!" Been like that for the twenty-five years I've known him.

I've heard it said so many times by so many "locals" that the three kinds of Haoles are:

1: "Haole" (racial identifier no different in tone or usage than Pake, Popolo, Japanee and Pochogee).

2: "Dumb" Haole (a relatively mild, generally equal opportunity epithet denoting an objectionable behavior stereotypically attributable to a particular ethnicity, like Hawaiians on food stamps, or a Portuguese employee making an embarrassing workplace error)

3: "Fccking" Haole (a racially charged, violent objection to some major affornt to "local" folkways or mores, such as pulling a dangerous U-Turn because YOU turned down the wrong street, cutting in line, dating my sister without us checking you out first, promulgating major land development, taking a stone from a heiau, taking my wave, taking food stamps after just moving here, taking my parking spot at my apartment to "run upstairs for a couple of minutes," taking my fishing spot because you want to learn paddle boarding or jet skiing, taking the attitude that something is wrong with Hawaii before first considering if you did anything to offend or create your own bad outcome, taking, taking, taking, taking, taking, taking, without first thinking about giving.

I hope this clears things up, and we can all go about our imperfect lives with a bit more understanding of each other.

Or, not.

PS The #1 and #2 kinds of Haoles generally gain acceptance quite easily.#3 never does, and I suspect the #3s are the ones who continually cry "RACISM!"

I've never seen the Dumb Portagee in action, making errors in the workplace. What I have seen is them acting as if they are the original Hawaiians, especially at rallies, sovereignty meetings, anything like that. Wannabes. It's like they are expecting some big payoff or handout, and that if they just scream the loudest they'll be at the head of the line. What's funny to me is that no-one (lol, except me) ever calls them on it. Go back to Portugal, ya fucking Haoles! Nah, just joking.

Interestingly, Portuguese are somewhat of an anomaly in Hawaii. Originally brought in to work the plantations, they basically said, "Fcck that shht. I ain't a slave," and moved on to other things. This is what brought in the Pakes and Kepani labourers.
Maybe out of resentment, the Asians began making fun of the Portuguese's intellect.
Or, maybe because it was Asians, they WERE smarter, so made fun of their Pocho predecessors.
Jus' sayin'.
