While i didn't vote for him, I came to admire Webb for taking a stand on issues that weren't necessarily Dem or Repub. I like a guy who does what he think is right and doesn't just do what the party tells him to - or what's fashionable. I think his remarks will probably be a lot more interesting - and thoughtful- than some of the speakers they've had in the last few years.

Navy Cross and silver star recipent, SecNav under Reagan; while Webb sided with dems more than reps, he didn't let partisan politics get in the way of his constiuency. I'm sure it was the "my ball" impasse politics that led the like of him, Snow, and Bayh to retire.
