With television writers – presumably the brains of the whole operation – going back to work after their four-month strike, it seemed like the perfect question to ask: What are the smartest TV series of all time? Star Trek? Hill St. Blues? Taxi? West Wing? Boy Meets World?

Star Trek gets my vote simply because they BOLDY used a split infinitive in the intro. I was at high school when it first came out and struggling with my homework which was asking for an example.

I think his pick for #1 M.A.S.H. was right on target. That is one of the best TV shows on TV. It dealt with a slew of issues and managed to make us laugh in the process.

Ok, I agree with about half of that list. The other shows were just stupid. HOUSE, CSI, ALL IN THE FAMILY, and MASH, sure but the others, WTF dude? No

He included "Mad About You" and left out "Seinfeld"? It's a wonder he didn't include "Beavis and Butthead".

Youre damn right about that - The whole proposition in the title is ludicrous too.
Television is a "herd control" machine.
Turn it off and you will see.

This is pretty funny, 'smart' and 'TV show' in the same sentence.

ok granted some of those shows are before my time but there is no way you can make a top ten list and leave off ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT!!! How did mensa leave that off? I heard they're making a movie and all I have to say about that is GO BLUTH FAMILY.
but on another note, I don't disagree with most of the picks, in no particular order. House does deserve a spot on the list, as does the West Wing, but I'd definitely take Mad About You off. No thanks.

Next Generation peaked around 3rd -6th seasons, with Season 5 being the best.

I would present that Firefly (a quickly canned for its gutsy style, real characters, and on-the-mark comments about overpowering government) was the best series I have ever seen.

I have no problem with "Jeopardy!", "M*A*S*H", etc. They were great. "Frasier" was certainly top notch, although I think giving "Cheers" its due for being the original spawning series.

Other than that, it's all about preferences. NO way we get everyone to agree.

Some of those were good but House? I have tried to watch it several times but it is always the same!

I do admit to watching sports and news and once in awhile the Animal Planet channel. LOL
