Busy Beatles weekend in Walnut Ridge

In 1964 the Beatles invaded America. During that historic trip the Fab Four made a stop in Walnut Ridge.

I don't know why you keep saying that the Beatles we're in Walnut Ridge. They never stepped foot in W.R. Now they were at the Airport and was taken to a hideaway in Clay County for a couple of days. Then they came back got in thier plane and took off, so why keep telling the lie, Tell about Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich, Jerry Lee just to name a few now they were in Walnut Ridge Just be Honest...

From what I understand, the airport was not feasible for this statue due to security, parking, etc., that's why they moved it to Walnut Ridge.

I had heard that a small jet plane will land at the Walnut Ridge Airport sometime around 1:00 p.m. this Friday on the 16th. Possible carring Julian Lennon as a surprise as when the Beatles surprise Walnut Ridge in 1964. I'll be there to see if its true or not. It might be one of the main Beatles as Ringo or Paul.. That would be pretty neat!!!!!!!!!!

If there was going to be any true celebrity ,then there would have to be some prior security arrangements made, you better talk to the City Police about bringing in the National guard to protect Ringo!

I agree that this is the dumbest thing ever. I think Jonesboro should make a special statue for every celebrity that ever spent more than 15 minutes in the area as well. And a special weekend to celebrate it. I'm gay, and this is even too gay for me. Find something real to celebrate, walnut ridge. Why not celebrate a local hero who saved a kid from a house fire, or anything. Not some freaking celebrities that were forced to spend time in the area. This is almost as dumb as the people that choose to live there. People, get a freakin life.

Although I love the beatles,(I happen to be wearing a beatles shirt as we speak) I shall not be attending. It was a hard decision between that, and cleaning a chicken coup for a random farmer that I have yet to meet, but I had to go with the more exciting choice of the two.

"Beatles at the Ridge" will be held Sunday. Several events and concerts are scheduled leading up to the unveiling of a Beatles sculpture in downtown Walnut Ridge.

Saturday night at 7:15 "A Hard Day's Night" will be played at the Regions Bank parking lot. The film, which starred the Beatles, was made in 1964. Those attending are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.

On Sunday, the authors of Come Together: The Business Wisdom of the Beatles will be on hand to autograph their book. Richard Courtney and George Cassidy wrote the book, which was published this year. It chronicles the calculated and highly successful effort that turned the musicians from Liverpool into a multi-billion-dollar franchise.

Sunday afternoon a documentary of the Beatle’s visit to Walnut Ridge will be playing at a new downtown business. Mike Bowman of Jonesboro produced the documentary, which features interviews with many of those who witnessed the Beatles’ stop here. It will be shown throughout the afternoon at Imagine, a new gallery that is opening at the corner of Main and Second Street.

There will also be several musical performances throughout the day Sunday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with J.R. Rogers and the All Stars. Memphis singer Nancy Apple takes the stage around 2:00 p.m., with rockabilly band Stunning Cunning to perform around 3:00 p.m.

Louise Harrison, sister of late Beatles band member George Harrison, will address the crowd around 4:00 p.m., leading into the headline act, Liverpool Legends, at 4:30. The Legends are a Beatles tribute band, operated by Louise Harrison, which performs in Branson.



Following the Legends' performance, the Beatles sculpture will be unveiled around 6:00 p.m. The sculpture, created by Danny West of Walnut Ridge, is an artist’s rendering of the Beatles’ iconic Abbey Road album cover. The work is known as "The British Invasion of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Highway."



"Beatles at the Ridge" is being sponsored by All Star Music, Cavenaugh Auto World, Craighead Electric, Faultline Studios, Goin’ Postal, Jonesboro Radio Group, KAIT-TV, KASU Radio and Special Things.
