I can think of many adjectives I would use to describe 30 Rock, but "urbane" is not one of them.

"30 rock" is easily the best show on commercial television.
By a long way.
Fantastic cast.
They have struck gold.
Good for Mad Men...Hope they can keep going.
Good Shows are often missed.
"Life on Mars" was Excellent...and cancelled by ABC...famous for their quick trigger that would have dumped Seinfeld, Cheers, M*a*s*h, Hill St, etc, all shows that started and stayed at the bottom....too bad it was not on NBC

Joey was funnier than 30 Rock .. but than so is a test pattern. I have watched that show and it barely made me chuckle. Tina Fey must have dirt on most of hollywood because she easily is the least funnny person on TV .. when she was on weekend update SNL was crap compared to Dennis Miller or even Norm McDonald ...

Best Comedy: The Office or even Big Bang
Best Drama: The Sheild
and United States of Tara is cancelled .. but they leave on Tracy Ullman .. No wonder I watch the Travel Channel and A&E more.. 30 Rock is one of the shows that people who think they are smart say is funny .. kind of like on South Park when people who drive Prius's get off on smelling their own farts

Why is 30 Rock funny? The jokes are predictable and stale. Besides Alec Baldwin, the acting is horrific. The plot lines are awful.

I watch The Office, Weeds, etc. and 30 Rock keeps coming up as a show I'm supposed to like as well, but I just don't. Can someone fill me in? Are there seasons I should skip? Seasons I should watch?

" Fey may be the best host "Weekend Update" ever had"
- Quote from Dennis Miller.

The Minute you say "the Office" - you have no crediblity...The Office lost itself 2 seasons ago...note their increasing desperate dynamics...and the DEAR AIR in every episode.
Yeah, 17 nominations last year , followed by 22 this year...Stick to "Golf Tip of the Day" - it's more your speed

What, did 30 Rock get nominated multiple times for "Comedies that aren't at all funny"? It should have to compete only with itself in that category.
And, of course Family Guy got nominated after it turned from slightly-liberal to ragging on the Right in every show this season (Complete with a Louis goes to work for Fox News ep). Dumb. Be Funny & don't show the mental derangement of your show's creator.
And, while I like Mad Men, it should get nominated under Mini-Series only. 10 episodes & a year+ break doesn't cut it. I have no idea what last happened...
Come on Sig, don't you know a "hip" show when you are told that there is one?

30 Rock is hilarious...just because it's liberal doesn't mean it's not funny. Thought conservatives had thicker skin?

I'm pretty damned liberal and think 30 rock is about the most overrated sitcom in the history of television. Then again, Tina Fey has a penchant for creating the overrated. Mean Girls anyone?

"Texas Liberal"?
That means Ketchup on a bratwurst, right?
Or, it's the All-Time Oxy-Contin oops! I mean Oxymoron...
Voted for Obama?
and ...
"MEAN GIRLS"?
Did you think you were in any way the audience for that film?(Which has made nearly $130 M) WoW!
Not surprised at all the the humor of 30 rock has escaped Texas, though.

Those of you complaining about the lack of humor in 30 Rock probably don't know what a "lemon party" is - and your ignorance of such references probably keeps you sitting on your hands since you just don't get the jokes.

Really. You just don't get it. Maybe you're too old and geezery?
