Why does John D Cort become blind in season 5 and in the reunion Baywatch Hawaiian wedding he has got his sight back?

Does get his sight back in a episode before the reunion?

He doesn't go blind. He gets a disease that will result with time in full loss of his vision. In the reunion movie he says that for the last few years his vision hasn't deteriorated and that apparently the disease has stopped.
