It is good that this student is recognised in the Somerset School. My son also is an art student this year and has been in the gifted and talented program since first grade. What I have found thru the years is that no one seems to notice until finally a teacher sees the talent.
My son is not one to sit around and do art all the time, it takes something to catch his eye for the creativity. Since moving to Somerset he could not get into an art class until this year as a sophmore, yet every year he is given credit for being in the gifted and talented program. My concern is why have a gifted and talented program and give a student report of being graded when in fact the child never stepped into the art class or went to any program at the school for such. In the 8th grade at Southern Middle and all those years in what is considered gifted and talented in Art (which didn't appear as such) that the principle called to ask if he could send to Frankfort an Art creation of a sculptured Indian mask that he made at home and only took it to the school because he needed a project for another class, not art. That art piece hung at the capital for 3 months to represent Student Artist of Kentucky. My son still laughs that the schools in the county have a program for gifted and talent in the ARTS, yet never attended any activities at the school. This year he is taking art and appreciates being a part of the class, still is in the Gifted and Talented Program and yet to see what is actually offered for the pieces of paper they send home every semester giving him recognition for something he has never had the opportunity to attend. This is just not in the Somerset School System but in the county as well. If they have a gifted and talented program what do they offer to any student that is accepted in such a program? Like I said he has been in it since 1st grade and only in the grade school level did the schools in this area actually do anything with the students. Possibly the school systems will look at why such a program exist for middle school and high school and do something to help these students be more creative. I asked if the Art Alliance does anything with the school, and so far have heard NO. Seems that in itself would be useful resource for the students. I am glad the student mentioned in the paper was recognised and hopefully the schools will look into doing more for the students who are gifted and talented in any subject including the Arts. |

sounds like a bit of jealousy who do you think you are fooling post a thread and then answer yourself wow

First I have no idea who posted the thread, and I have no idea who the student is at the school. One.... as I said it is good the school recognized the student. My point was to address the schools need to do more with a program that they have in existance that would help alot of students in the middle and high school and that being the gifted and talented program. Why you would think someone posted out of jeolousy is a little immature thinking on your part. Agian it is good the student was recognized for his talent and possibly the school's will look into doing more in their efforts to help such talent in all areas of the school curriculum. |

Disney stuff? Copies of originals by ANOTHER artist?
Sure, this kid can look at something and freehand it, and that does take talent, HOWEVER, the real talent lies in creating your OWN artwork. I hope that he can find his own niche and grow into it, creating one of a kind works that come ONLY from his mind. Now THAT'S talent. |

I got an email the other day that a student had a piece of their art stolen out of Stoner Hall at the college. Not sure if it was found but thats kind of shitty whoever stole it. If you took it you should take it back. Just leave it in the bathroom or something and someone will find it and return it. You could just be a man about it and take it to the art studio but thieves usually have no back bone and I doubt you would do it.

well, let me explain something to you, half the things I post you would never know, some of my most funniest post you would have to sift thru to find them. I do not take topix serious, nor the people that post. Do you think all the post are from the same person. There is quiet a few of us that can use alot of wit to create threads, some of which you actually post comments. Topix is a humorous way to get thru the day..........don't take it so personal. |
