History update: Even people in my age group (60's) don't refer to Blacks as 'colored.'

She was supposed to call him just what he is, an "African-American" or bi-racial president. Mulatto hasn't been used since the turn of the last century.

I think the colored should be dropped if it is cosidered a racist term.

The term "colored" is racist?
The origination and use of the term was never meant to be racist. It was used as a term of descriptive politeness.
My 5th grade teacher (Mable Sanders of Omaha, Ne.) was black and she made a point of telling the class that "colored" was a term of respect and that addressing her as such was appropriate.
It wasn't until the early 80's that the term "black" became en vogue.
Furthermore, the term "African American" while acceptable goes a little too far....I don't introduce myself as German, Irish, Dutch American.
It is exactly this type of seperation that fosters a lack of cultural cohesion within a country.
We should concentrate on what makes us the same and not so much what makes us different from each other.

If the NAACP uses the term colored then how can that be a racist term? It may not be the ever changing politically correct term for the moment but I don't think it is racist. Most people of african decent that I know tell that they prefer the term black.

The bigger question is why do we care what she says? Why do we care so much what any celebrity has to say? They are supposed to be entertainers not there to tell us how to think!

Why does anyone want to know what LiLo thinks of anything anyhow...or that she even thinks, for that matter?

Sounds like the stupid photogs were just fishing for a sound bite to justify taking snaps of another lame celeb.
