Who is he ? And I read a lot. I read 99% non-fiction, but I'm reading a good novel now in the "alternative history genre".

He wrote 'The Power of One'(fiction) which was made into a movie (with Morgan Freeman and Stephen Dorff). It deals with apartheid in South Africa through the eyes of a young English boy.

As I said, I read a lot, and 99% of what i read is non-fiction. It doesn't sound like my kind of book, I'm reading a good novel now I'm enjoying.

Wikipedia has a decent bio.

Check out the series that begins with "1632" by Eric Flint.

If you like novels in the "alternative history" genre, try Robert Conroy. I found his novel "1901" by accident a few years ago, and it was very good. It was about a German invasion, in the year 1901, of the U.S.(at Suffolk County, Long Island, which is where I am from and which was the main reason I picked up the book and read it, after I saw the excerpt on the back cover), and the ensuing war between the U.S. and Germany. It features a score of historical characters such as President McKinley, Vice-President Theodore Roosevelt, Admiral Dewey, and many others.

I just started reading another "alternative history" novel by the same author called "Red Inferno". The novel is set in the closing days of World War II in Europe. Instead of Stalin abiding by his agreement to stop his troops after capturing Berlin, Stalin decides it is in his best interest to violate that agreement, and have his troops attack British and U.S. military forces in Europe, with the goal being to drive the U.S. and Britain from the continent, and for Stalin to sieze all of Europe. I'm about half-way thru it and it's very good also.

Give Eric's series a try. He certainly didn't invent the genre, but with his friend and sometime co-author, David Drake, he definitely put it on the map and collected a massive following.
