There's no reason to get excited. Netflix adds and removes large amounts of content at the beginning of each month (they've just added 500 movies as well). Also, it's no secret that Netflix is moving away from non-exclusive deals and chasing exclusive deals.

Later this month, they're letting their Viacom deal (Nicklelodeon, MTV, BET) expire, but they're still negotiating to keep certain specific shows on an exclusive basis.

If they want to unload stuff that people aren't watching or stuff that can be found everywhere else, and replace it with more popular(and often exclusive) content, I have no problem with that.

Netflix had no choice, when their license for streaming those shows expired, netflix had to drop them. If the studios do not want to renew netflixs license, what can they do? At least it is not as bad as when Starz would not let Netflix renew their license. There are still thousands of good show on netflix, if you know how to look.

my truths, I realize that the original explanation was that most of these movies were being removed and added to Warner Archive Instant, but this has turned out to be false. Slate, which originally broke the story, offered these clarifications:

"...Netflix often licenses movies on an exclusive basis and sometimes chooses not to renew less watched titles. He also notes that many of the movies expiring at midnight were part of a deal Netflix had with Epix."

..."This post previously stated that these titles would become exclusively available on Warner Archive Instant. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. tells Slate that the films being removed from NetflixÂ’s streaming service do not belong to Warner Bros."

at least three studios had titles that disappeared - Warner Bros., MGM, and Universal

When I looked at my q, I noticed I had about 10 movies that were about to expire but they were mostly the older ones like charlie chan. oh well...

According to a recent update, the total of disappearing movies is closer to one thousand, rather than the two thousand that was previously reported. Honestly, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
