I personaly think that we make too much of a fuss over people who have some fame attached to their name. Facts are: They are no different than any one else and should not be held to a higher standard.I had Thyroid removal surgery in 1997. Then had rediation for 8 weeks due to a mass the size of an apple. I did not make an issue of it and recovered well.
What was the big deal about making this such a News worthy story? People go through it every day and most never get attention from the press. We need to focus on better things and stop putting people on alters where they do not belong.

I don't know about you but prior to Brooke speaking out about thyroid cancer and a few other celebrities, I knew NOTHING about thyroid cancer and had never even heard of is. UNTIL I was diagnosed last year with papillary carcinoma, underwent two thyroidectomies, radiactive iodine treatment, and multiple medication changes. My cancer was large enough to be Stage 2 cancer. I am glad you had such a great outlook on things but I underwent serious depression and anxiety after being told at 28 years old that I had cancer. Making an issue out of it is not the problem. I have a friend who's father also had thyroid cancer. When they found it, it was too late and he died months later. The point is, this cancer is rarely detected but VERY easily treated and cases are expected to skyrocket in the next few years. If people dont know about this disease, they can't look for the signs or know to get their levels checked. While some of us can go through the ordeal and move on with their lives, some others of us are willing to open up and tell our story in hopes that it might help someone else. I could care less who is getting media attention for having thyroid cancer. I am just glad that someone is helping others to be educated about the THIRD most increasing cancer in 20 to 50 year olds.
