I say kill the pit and have the owner go to jail! Poor little girl. This should never happen.

Melanie, I agree with you, but our City Council has previously refused, more than once, to outlaw Pit Bulls.
One of two things first have to happen:
1. Enough blood has to be spilt.
2. One-of-their-kin has to be a victim

Oh, I see...you think I'm just being a bit too theatrical..right? Then, we'll all Reap-it!

It is not the dogs fault. Pit bulls are generally a more aggressive breed but if they are raised properly they are fine. the real problem is that people don't take care of their pets and/or train them to be very aggressive. For some reason, people seem like they just have to have a Pit bull "for protection" but they don't have a clue what to do with it...if you are going to have an aggressive dog because you need protection, then you should pay the price if something goes wrong. The owner should be jailed, without bond and they should be charged just like if they were a drunk driver and injured someone.

I'm sure this was a very nice family pet and the owner cannot believe that this happened. All pits are the "greatest, kindest, friendliest animals" until they maul another child. Eventual 2 and 2 must add up to 4. It's a volatile mixture to add unsupervised aggressive dogs with unsupervised children.

How many kids are going to be killed or mauled seriously before the city council decides to ban these dogs ??

This is another very sad story about what happens when adults make the decision that “their “ dog wouldn’t hurt a child and throw all good judgement out the window.. Just the other day, my friends very small dog was attacked by a Rottweiller after it jumped the fence and ran out to the street where my friend and her dog were walking. Fortunately, the little dog survived, but the scariest part is that the family had a toddler themselves that was out in the yard playing when the event occurred…It is stupid and negligent to assume that your family dog won’t be maul your child or anyone else’s child. They are usually immature adults who think they’re tough, and have some power because they have a big dog. It’s a fad among white trash to own a pitt or rott dog. I don’t care what anyone says , just read the statistics; they are dangerous...

People say that it depends on the owner and what they teach their dogs. Not true! Animals do what nature intended them to do. Its in their genes and "it is what it is".

As some one who had to go into your backyards n work on cable lines i can tell you that most pits get a bad rap the worst n most aggresive of the breds is the dalmation more techs and workers are biten by them.

The owner of the dog should be jailed. Irresponsible owners who don't obedience train there dogs are the reason for these senseless attacks. Its not a bread problem! Punish the owner! You can raise a Poodle to attack.

My former neighbor had a pit from the time it was a puppy and treated it like gold. It was in the yard most of the time and just fine for about a year. Then it got aggressive and barked at everyone except the family and they had to keep it tied because it was jumping the fence. When I was in the yard the dog acted so crazy I was afraid it would break loose.

Maybe so, but most folks aren't put in the hospital in serious condition from a dalmation.

All violent breeds of dogs should be exterminated, or at least illegal for an average resident to own. I'm sick of hearing "They're not bad, man. It's all in how you raise 'em." B.S.!! Here's how it actually is. If there's a convicted child molester that moves into the neighborhood, he goes around introducing himself to everyone as he's legally required to. And he might say something like "Yeah, I did things to kids, but I'm all right now 'cuz I take this little pill." So everything will be all right now and my kids can play in his yard? No! He'll get an ass-whoopin' from me on the spot and if he runs to the police I'll say he was confrontational and I defended myself.'Cuz he's a child molester, a known sick and violet person! Just like a pit bull is a known violent and lethal breed of dog! Like I say, get rid of 'em all, or get 'em out of the general public's hands.

You don't know that, the media only writes about a dog attack when it is a pit bull.

I wish people would research breeds before outright hating them. Show me the dog that attacked this little girl. More than likely it was not an American Pit Bull Terrier but a mixed breed or abused dog. All these mean aggressive dogs everyone calls pits are not. The APBT is a small to medium size dog(25-55 lbs.) that has one of the best temperaments towards humans. They are one of the least aggressive breeds and make horrible guard dogs. Don't hate my dog that I work so hard to train and socialize because some jerk has an inbred mutt that is aggressive because they leave it locked inside all day or chained to a tree.

Owning a PBT is nothing more than a redneck and/or gangsta status symbol. Ban PBTs!
