The laws, like the one fining people for sitting in the middle of an intersection, only work if they are enforced. It is a great law, but I never see it enforced. If there is never a consequence, people will keep doing the behavior. It is human nature.

Jen - I agree with you, without enforcment the laws are useless. If a portion of each and every traffic fine were earmarked to add to the police budget, possibly more enforcement would be forthcoming. Many cities earmark these fines to just be put in the city coffers. New police cars could be purchased, new equipment for the department, more officers. All they have to do is pick a particular section of the city and enforce all traffic laws. People are not stupid, they will quickly learn that the TPD means business. This could apply to all cities, not just Tulsa. For example, in BA the red light on the off ramp at 145th off the west bound 51 is for the most part ignored. You seldom see anyone from the BAPD enforcing the light. Wrecks galore at this intersection in front of the Quik-Trip.

I have never driven in any city quite like Tulsa when it comes to lights. When we have friends and family come see us- we warn them- if you are approaching a light and it goes yellow- DON'T STOP- you will be rear ended. If you happen to be sitting a red light, when it turns green- DON'T GO....you have to wait on everyone running the red lights before you can go- if you go on green, you will get whacked by those who think they do not have to stop for lights. As far as the cops go- I, personally, have not seen one cop run a red light, but I do take my life into my own hands every morning driving to work...YIKES! START TICKETING THEM and the people that cluster f@*k intersections... if you can't go- PLEASE don't block the intersection- it may be your family member that the ambulance is trying to get to!

This doesn't surprise me at all. I don't think people should break the law but, how can they tell people not to when they are doing the same. Sometimes things that are even more horrific. Come on clean up our police departments before you send them out to clean up our city. That is one reason no one gives a damn about the laws all of these bad examples. Furthermore it depends on who you are and who you know as to what punishment you get. All should get punished for doing it not just some.

To Tulsa 2 - There is an easy way to stop those that sit in the intersection waiting for the light to change. The city, all cities need to pass a law against blocking the intersection and simply hang a sign in the intersection that says
"Blocking the Intersection punishable by $150.00 fine." It sure stops them in the San Diego area.
That's a great idea perhaps if Tulsa did the money they collect could go to repairing the awful streets. If 150.00 was levied against each intersection blocker we would have the best streets in the nation.

I've seen it being enforced quite often at the intersection of 41st and Memorial.

It was kind of obvious when he pulled into a neighborhood and pulled into one of the garages.Usually when I call the police they dont have access to my garage door opener.

I agree APit, I have sit in many a traffic jam on HWY 169 N at 5:00, and I44/412 East @ 5:00 and watched officers both use their lights to speed past the conjestion or use the shoulder to get past stopped traffic only to be going no where. The last police car that done this I observed turned off his lights as he exited the 76TH ST N exit and pulled into a QT. And before some No It All questions how I know he wasnt going to a 911 call..Because it was a Skiatook police car who would not be responding to a call in Owasso.
