This is a worthless statement from the interim chief.

Everyone wants to believe all police tell the truth, but who decided when they dont?
This might look good in headlines, but it's meaningless dribble that indicates there is no plan to heal the corruption in TPD.

It is in fact, a big lie in itself.

Just get a sleezy lawyer to set up a bogus "lie detector" and claim you passed it.
There are plenty of cop worshopers here that would never question that.

Since when is this the "NEW" policy? It's always been that way. You take an oath when you sign on. Break any rule and you can be fired. This police chief is an idiot. Worthless statement. Start firing at the top where most of the lying is. What a joke.

He's right, its never been OK to lie and they should have always fired those who do. I dont need a policy statement to say I cant take a dump on the Chiefs desk. Maybe I should so they can address improper dumping on the Chiefs desk.

Chief Jordan and the illustrious Mayor Dewey Bartlett are blowing smoke up the public's backside!“From this moment on, any officer who is untruthful... will be terminated," Jordan said.
Do they actually think the general public is ignorant enough to believe this is a step to “restore public confidence”?!?!? This is a big production of a rule the majority of the officers follow to start with. It is a smoke screen to make the public believe they (Chief Jordan and the Mayor) are really being pro-active on this situation. The unfortunate truth is there are corrupt people in every field of employment. These guys got caught and are in the spotlight because they are supposed to be there to protect the public, not take advantage of us. The Chief and Mayor are acting like they have made a historical revelation/declaration. I have to believe the majority of the public will do no more than roll their eyes and declare this “production” as nothing more than what it is. A waste of time and an insult to our intelligence.
The real crime is the way Mayor Dewey Bartlett and his crew have been jerking our officers around- laying them off, bringing them back, firing a few and the magically finding the money to bring them back again. Our officers should not have to worry what a power hungry, ignorant Mayor is likely to do with their jobs while they are out protecting us.
P.S. Has anyone checked into the service history of Chief Jordan? It’s my understanding he spent most of his career not on the street, but hanging out in the office pushing a pencil or hanging out. I would be interested to know if he has really been out there scared he wasn’t coming home because some idiot had a gun pointed at him? Chief material? I think not.

Chief Jordan has a very well respected service history. I spoke to a corporal who told me about the time that Chief Jordan (then Sgt. Jordan) saved his butt. I have heard other stories like his as well.

I find it sad that they need to come out and say that if you lie and you are a law enforcement officer, that you will get fired. No kidding? Really?

I also find it sad that the biggest liars in the department are the ones in the pictures in this article.

I am glad to know this. The scenarios I have heard from law enforcement were very different. Thank you for bringing that to the table.

No problem. The only thing that makes me a little suspicious of Chief Jordan is that he has been long time friends with Bartlett. Dewey used to go on ride alongs with Chief Jordan back when he was in patrol. However, all officers that worked with Jordan told me that they respected him.

When I was training to be a Tulsa Police Officer the "rule" was "you never lie"...period. In 1975 I was told that we had the cleanest department in the nation. You didn't lie in your reports and you didn't lie in an investigation of another officer and you darn sure didn't lie on the witness stand. To do any one of these ruined your credibility as an officer and pretty much ended your career as a police officer. Now? Well things have gotten so bad that the Chief HAS to remind everyone not to lie? Where did these officers loose the fundamental concept of telling the truth? "Justice" achieved by anything other then truth cannot be tolerated for it will forever be suspect. It isn't even real justice. Any conviction will forever be in doubt. I don't know what if anything these officers did or didn't do. That is for the courts to decide and these officers better hope that if they are innocent then the truth will be told and all the witnesses speak the truth. For only the truth should convict them if they are guilty and only the truth will set them free if they are innocent. Ironic, isn't it? BTW Don't judge the whole department over the charges filed on a few. That truly isn't fair to the good men and women who do their jobs honestly and with integrity.

It is like fixing the barn door after the cows come home! Kind of late for this isn't it? Does he or the mayor really think people believe them?

This whole announcement was a waste of time.

The officer gets terminated, but the person they lied about will have to spend thousands of dollars to clear their name and that doesn't include the hardship of losing everything if they got put behind bars.
