I am going to assume this is Kathy Taylor the story is talking about, since it does not say anything other than "Taylor." Poor reporting IMO.

Anyway, I do not think Kathy Taylor has any business doing anything. She obviously hasn't done anything good for this city, ever, that I am aware. Does she think this will make everyone like her again?

FYI - Pay for a rookie Tulsa Firefighter/Paramedic averages out to be about $12 an hour. How's that for paid well? Especially for the jobs they do.

Praise Mayor Taylor for her actions regarding the obviously dishonest and incompetent administrative staff at the TFD ''EMS'' division. Just because the firefighters passed the protocol test, does not mean they are competent providers of prehospital medicine. It means they can read and memorize written material. A middle school student could read, study, and then pass the medical protocol test. I would be more concerned about the ethical implications of their obvious laziness for acquiring and maintaining the knowledge of being a paramedic or EMT. I bet Mayor Taylor is glad she did not award them the responsibility for EMS and that she left that task with EMSA. Years ago, one of the individuals that was reassigned to firefighting duties sent a letter to my superiors at EMSA complaining about myself and others. This complaint included many things, one of them being I would not even let the firefighters help carry my equipment on medical calls. Today, I cannot wait to let this person carry my equipment while I take care of the patient. Welcome back to the streets sir, I look forward to seeing you down at the Day Center.

The lose of these two good men is a result of poor book keeping nothing more. The request for more personel in the EMS part of the fire deptartment has fallen on deaf ears and this is the best Kathy could come up with to save face .

Firefighters don't get paid well. No one got fired. You don't know the facts. Kathy Taylor is a joke. I can't wait until she is gone.

Wow,$12 an hour. Im sure a lot of people out there only wish they could get paid that much. Im not trying to demeanor the job a firefighter does, but again, takaing on this job is like any others, its their choice. I was a volunter firemen for about 10 years and got paid 20.00 a run. Most runs lasted 5-8 hours. average of 6 hours, figures out to be 3.33 an hour, but I knew this before going in.

There is all this talk about how the TFD employees had a 100 percent pass rate on the medical protocol test, so what!! I have a nephew in middle school that has earned several high A's on tests in government class, does that mean he is qualified to be the President of the United States?

All you people need to just shut-up with your stupid blah, blah, blah, talk. When you do something wrong you pay the price. You may not be a bad person, you just made a bad decision. But you have to pay your dues. I've made my mistakes and it has cost me just a little and often it came with a big price. Sometimes you pay for the rest of your life. Its called being human.

Tulsa Firefighters are great! They are always eager to help when on scene. Tulsa Firefighters are certified by the same medical control board as we are. It seems to me, to discount their certification would be to discount my own.

That $12/hr you quote is to sit around the firehouse 80% of their time on the clock watching TV and sleeping. Let's put it into perspective.

If they do not like or trust the TFD, then by all means, do not dial 911 when you need help, do it yourself!

Firemen get paid well???? Which planet are you living on? Just like teachers and police officers, our profession is highly UNDERpaid for what we do. Construction jobs don't involve half of the risks of firefighting. It's a shame someone blew he whistle on these guys, they're all excellent firefighters and administrators.

When you look at their annual salary, take into account that they are not required to have more that an associate's degree, and consider their excellent union benefits (healthcare, pensions, etc.), they are indeed paid VERY WELL. "John in Tulsa," you have no clue.

The Fireman wrote: "Its a shame to blow the whistle". Thats bull!!! When you do wrong I'll blow a freekin' horn. WRONG is WRONG. You must have politician blood running threw your veins. Firemen and Police do a service and a job just like anyone else. It does, take a special person to do these things. But no one should be above the law!

I wonder what the citizens of Tulsa would think if they knew EMSA was holding calls and not informing TFD for sometimes up to 5 min. on a medical emergency. And I also wonder what the outcome would be in EMSA had an audit? There is such a heated debate on this because EMSA does not want the fire department taking over the EMS in Tulsa and this is a perfect opportunity for them to make the TFD look bad. How about we stop this and concern ourselves with the public we serve instead!!!! And another thing.......how bout the media starts reporting real news and not creating false news just to get a few more folks to watch their station!!!!!

This is not about EMSA. We didn't falsify training records. TFD made a mistake that they are fixing. We work with them everyday and they are our brothers in service. Quit trying to pit us against each other. Let it go and be happy that when you do call 911 you are getting the best EMS care in the nation. And we can prove it.
