17 year old girl makes a tragic mistake. She should be punished but not thrown into the system. Who at 17 wasn't an idiot; she didn't know any better.

The reality is that she'll have to live with this for the rest of her life.

Give me a break. She didn't know any better? She's was 17 not 7 she knew better.

She should be locked in a room with a hungry dog. At least she could try and defend herself.

The dog has already been killed and all it was just doing what an unfed dog would do.

The dog was euthanized to obtain the evidence it had consumed.

Yeah lovely job by the cops to kill the dog, only to find it had been starving. In response to 'mistakes' comment: there is no way this girl made a tragic mistake. A mistake is an unexpected accident. In contrast, this girl made a series of conscious choices, and she kept making them. I know kids who are younger, and who are responsible for many animals, a part-time job and homework. This was no accidental mistake. This girl kept choosing behaviors that led to this. Poor kid and poor dog. They're the innocents, the girl deserves what she gets. It's called personal accountability.

It's about time the mother was prosecuted for the child's death! Completely the fault of the parents' and other guardians of the baby.

really..she is dealing with it by getting high the day after her baby WAS KILLED? she should be locked away and sterilized..the reality is.. if she cared at all what was done to the innocent baby, she would have seen her problem immediately instead of diving head first into smoke filled oblivion.. I have zero sympathy for this girl..

I told you all months ago, that the mom was negilent with the child. I knew then there was so much more to this story than just the dog eating the child.

It just goes to show you how responsible these people were in that house. They couldn't even feed the dog, muchless take care of a child. I wondered when this happened if the puppy had been fed and taken care of properly. Now we know the answer to that question. I'm sorry this happened, but it didn't have to happen and the mother needs to be held accountable.

Im a mother of four. I dont care how tired I am I can always Hear my kids cry or say mom. I'm wide awake when they hollar my name. And if Im asleep and something is wrong with one of them I can feel it and it wakes me up. She had to of been on something in order for that puppy to have enough time to eat a baby.

I can't believe no one else was charged in this - I mean the grandma should have gotten up if the mother wasn't, what about the dad and grandpa leaving with the baby in a differnt room than the other so called adults.
This is a tragidy that the mother will live with forever...it goes to show that people that are under age need to have parenting classes and every adult in the house should be prosecuted with the mother.

I agree. She probably rubbed down the baby with dog food, then let the starving puppy go after the baby. Poor dog and baby.

It was the poop in the diaper that the puppy went after at first.

Just a freak accident and the DA needs to be treating it as just that.

If someone is going to be charged, it should be all of them. It takes a village to raise a baby and the mother may have thought that, any of the other adults that weren't up the night before, were watching him.
She will have to live with this for the rest of her life. I would have probably had to be heavily medicated after this as well, legally or illegal substances.
I think that my tax dollars shouldn't go for charging HER with manslaughter. If this had happened to me, I'd be glad to be charged and not have to live day to day life. Why don't we give her an opportunity to be a advocate for not being a teen mother?
How about we spend our tax dollars on teaching children how first not to get pregnant before HS graduation, then parenting classes, and also, drug prevention courses.
I am a single mom of 1 and understand that this was the most awful thing to happen, but believe it was just a freak accident that we can learn from and never let happen again.

I agree. Charge everyone in the house! They must have all been so high they couldn't hear anything- lock em all up!

are you serious? a neglected dog left alone with a neglected baby and our judicial system should look the other way? Well, hmmm- you are probably one of the idiots that think that someone pointing a gun at a cop is not reason enough to shoot him. Good gawd- get a grip on some reality.

Now we kinda know why the dog attacked the baby. 1. It was starving 2. A mix of boxer and boxers are kinda mean.
