I hate that someone was killed, but when you drive like a bat out of hail and do not choose to wear a seatbelt you have to realize that a nasty fatality wreck is a very good possibility!

cause of the accident was more likely NO LIGHTS ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT!!! When is the city going to realize this!!! Either turn them on or mark the roads better!

Duh...really....I didn't know cars were equipped with those, you must have a city issued vehicle.

The trooper at the scene made an irresponsible guess which is now being reported as "fact".
Must be nice to be immune from lawsuits, and not have to take responsibility.

Foolish person, these happen in broad daylight.
Highway lights dont make roads safer, there are fewer crashes now with the lights OFF if you care to look at the figures.

If kotv didnt get the name of the cop that made the statement, then kotv may have just guessed at it themselves, otherwise, they would have printed the name of the person responsible for such a legally actionable statement.

Seat belts, people, seat belts! If you have to rebel about something, make it something other than not wear seat belts.

A little white lie.
Try suing a cop as an individual, they have immunity.
You can only sue a department, which is no different than suing the taxpayers.

No seatbelt.

Drunk. Texting while driving. Programming GPS. Distracted driving. Who knows?

Driving a car these days is out of control. Too many idiots, doing all of the above.

God help us....

Mark the roads better? I guess some people aren't capable of exiting a highway without overhead lighting? I guess they have some sort of license restriction that precludes them from driving in the dark, in rural area, on roads without shoulders or guardrails, etc.

Maybe people should drive slowly enough to maintain control of their vehicles. Conditions vary, vehicles vary, traffic varies, individuals night vision varies. There are roads that I can safely and legally drive faster in my car than my wife's van IN THE DRY. In very wet conditions my car loves to hydroplane so I'm one of the slower cars on a wet road. My wife's van has better headlights. In my car, on the turnpike I can legally out drive my headlights SO I SLOW DOWN a bit. Radical thinking I know.
