Good grief, thank God this wasn;t more serious, I had an elderly gentlemen pull right out in front of me today, I literally had to slam on my brakes to keep from slamming into the back of this person, then of course it would have been my fault for a rear ender! ugggggg

Geez, when has 58 been considered elderly? If that's the case what am I at 60? This story had to be written by some whipper-snapper. LOL

Perhaps before a license is renewed a letter from a doctor that states that the person is able bodied, vision is good and has reflexes that are normal. So that AARP and everyother elderly related organization doesn't get their depends in a wad the law should apply to all renewals.
Something else to consider...vehicle safety inspections, real inspections that will boot those rolling junkyards off the roadway.

Witnesses say the elderly driver slipped his truck into reverse and accidentally crashed into the store's entrance.

The guard, who EMSA said was 58-years-old, was taken to the hospital with a broken leg, but is expected to be okay.

How many buildings have been run into in the last couple of months? Seems like an epidemic. Also, i'm 55 and think everybody should have to retest frequently. My mother and father never had to prove they could even see for crying out loud, got their license for free, and ran over curbs and all kinds of crap because they couldn't see. I couldn't get anybody to help, not OSP, not the eye doctor who said "I don't want to be the cause of someone loosing their license." I told him to be sure and stand by the road next time my mother went blowing by and maybe after she ran over him, he'd do something.

Yes, freedom sucks doesn't it. If someone is inconvenienced or a tragedy occurs occasionally, then freedom should be taken away. <sarcasm>

More people are killed by drunks and young to middle-aged people than elderly. The lady on the northside who hit the family dollar wasn't elderly. Make a real point instead of a communist response to a single headline.

People should use common sense and consideration. I know an 80 yr old lady who gets around just fine in her car, and she could probably out work you. She doesn't need to be limited to busses and taxi's just because someone her age had a wreck or because someone like you has a stupid opinion. Maybe you should re-take your driving test since you don't know how to share the road.

You sound like a mid-towner. Your money grows on stocks and bonds that go up in value because the company laid off the people driving those rolling junkyards to make their numbers look better. What a jerk.

Maybe it wasn't their ages that was the problem but the family genes. Perhaps you should park your car too.

Well that and the fact that you were driving under the influence while speeding, texting, beating your kid, stuffing a burger, and failing to use turn signals. Here's one for you, slow down if you can't react better than that. I get cut off by more road ragers like you than elderly people.

The security guard was 58, it didn't say how old the driver was.

And young drivers speed and have no respect for other drivers on the road, maybe they shouldn't even be allowed a drivers license till their 21.
