Lucky kid. At least he only lost his arm and not his life! Now he'll probably be the poster-boy for those OERB commercials.
Sad... but a teenager should be old enough to know better.

Kids, teenagers and adults do stupid things everyday. Some just have to pay a big price for it. I would imagine his pain and suffering will be a very big lesson to him and everyone he knows. One of God's little miracles that the cab driver 'just happened' to know what to do.

Wow. Leave it to someone to always come on here and not hold the person responsible accountable for their OWN actions. It sucks that this young man lost an arm, however he was old enough to know better (you would think anyway). I used to watch my teenage friends play on these things when we were young. Thank goodness no one was hurt, I was always to chicken to partake in the "fun". My mama taught me right.

Seriously, you are blaming the government for some teenage kid doing something dumb?

They probably should have been shut off but he is certainly responsible for his own actions. And now he'll have to live with it for the rest of his life. What fun! I doubt it was worth it.

My young brother and one of his friends tried this once...needless to say the friend has scars for days from this. These things are not to be messed with. Hope this kid recovers fast and uses his head next time he has a bright idea..

I smell a lawsuit even if it was the kids fault. I do wish him a healthy recovery.

I really don't see a lawsuit coming. The kids climbed the fence, turned the pump on (yes, from an off position) and tried to "Ride" the pump jack. It was in no way, shape or form the oil company's fault. I know where this pump jack is, there are warning signs on the fence around the pumpjack. I wish the kid a speedy recovery, but I really hope the family doesn't sue, it would be frivolous.

They could find a lawyer who will argue that it was an "attractive nuisance".

Agreed. But I bet they probably consult a lawyer... just in case

They probably will. It just gets me how some people (NOT necessarily these people) will sue anyone, even if they are at fault. Like the lady that tripped over her own child, then sued the store.

Haha! No way. I wonder how much I would get if I tripped over BOTH of my kids.... Ka Ching!
