I live in BA too and the smoke is very strong! I'm pretty sure that wasn't a good idea.

Yeah, ti was really smart to do this at all, much less during the hottest couple of weeks of the year.

I'm embarrassed for anyone who visits Tulsa today for the first time.

Other reports stated the cause of the fire is from lightening Wed. evening. That is the same thing that happened a while back. The fire was not set. You are not suppose to burn landfills. It is an act of mother nature. The fire can burn for days. When it gets down inside the hill it will continue to burn just like it did last time.

It is dirty, disgusting, decomposing TRASH that is burning! What the heck did they expect it to smell like? Roses?

the smoke is actually entering the buildings downtown the the air conditioning vents. as an asthmatic it is very hard to breath. the people who started the fire should be fined heavily for the air polution they are causing. people with respiratory disorders are gonna be in the doctors offices and ER's like crazy because of this.

It is horrible downtown. I would hate to have to work outside today. Anyone with breathing problems should stay indoors.

Ligtning did not start that fire. I drove by it around 9 p.m. and there wasn't a cloud in the sky at that time. Landfills are notorious for burning tires and claiming no knowledge of how it happened. Tires are almost impossible to bury, take up a lot of space and do not decompose. Space is money to a landfill. It is illegal to burn tires or anything at a landfill. I worked for one for several years...it's a "gee, I really don't know how that fire got started" attitude. It will continue until they impose major fines to the owners.

Just because your former work place might have done things wrong doesn't mean this one does. You need to get more facts.

there were lots of clouds coming in from the NNW last night. at 8pm i could see the system in the northwest skies, and i checked the weather at 830 when i got home. sure enough, a storm system was heading this way. the edge of the system was just on the north western edge of tulsa county at the time.

not saying they didn't take the opportunity to burn tires, but there was definitely some weather activity last night. not much, but there was some!

There was something going on with the weather last night. People shouldn't jump to conclusions and blame the company just beacause of this. Yes the smoke is bad but I am sure they are trying to deal with the fire the best that they can.

There is not enough water in Tulsa to put out a trash fire of that size. Besides it's not worth placing a firefighters life in danger inside a landfill that is burning.

Hasn't the owner of the landfill already been fined by the EPA because they were not in compliance with regulations, to the point where legal action shut down the landfill? Is this another situation of that same kind of behavior by the owner of the land fill?
Another Known Fact

Tulsa, OK

#20 Aug 5, 2010
So it was ok to burn it overnight in hopes that it would rain and put it out before people really noticed. Since that didnt happen now the DEQ and EPA want to get involved? Seriously. Another crack-pot government agency falling down on the job. Of course the landfill I am sure didnt advise them prior either.

This is yet another bullshit coverup story and playing dumb and turning a blind eye seem to be the Mode of Operation in this City........
unfortunately, this guy that owns the land fill has so much money that he will never be fined..... another "SLICK" buy off..... Can anyone say GREESE?.........
