Listen, We're not all a bunch of "dumb rednecks" down here. I go to school at Hartshorne, Oklahoma (a mile from Haileyville). While I can see why everyones freaking about this you people need to realize that your not getting the whole story! While I think there should be some punishment to the students the reason they didnt report this is becuase it was fired with to officials there and when the administration found out they saw that it wasnt a "school shooting" they tried to give the kids a second chance.
It doesnt make it right and mistakes where made by certain individuals but stop judging a community on the actions of a few people!
By the Supt own words noone was watching these students. The 3 school employees where in the ag building where the ag teacher was located and supposed to be watching these students. The students talked about it infront of the adults! If he wasnt watching these students what is he doing? As a grandparent I have always thought my grandchild was safe at school and well supervised only to find out from her that they are rearly supervised! We are lucky noone was hurt but there is alot of cover up going on. What are you trying to hide???

Chill!! What would you say if your grandchild or child was in the Preschool buildings that where just to the left of where the shot? What if someone there got hurt, would you still say chill? I think not! You would be allover the school and law enforcement!

Please remember that there are other students at this school that were not involved in this situation at all but could still affected by it. My child is worried about losing her Principal, Superintendent and School Board members and wondering what would happen to their school then? There are alot of good people in this area and we should not all be judged harshly due to a few peoples actions. Please pray that the best possible outcome will come out of this with as little interuption to our childrens education and daily life. Thanks!!

Just for the record neither the superintendent or high school principal live in the same city, school district, or county as the school. Real close ties with the people you serve.

These school officials can twist the facts, bend the law, try to cover up their inability to run OUR school properly but in the end they are wrong and should be held responsible by the chidren, parents and grandparents they are supposed to be serving. Sad to say OUR school probably needs a full investigation of many other areas and a real house cleaning.

From what I am reading, your child and YOU should be more worried about NOT losing the principal!

it's against the law for the students to even have guns on school property...their parents could be fined...

I'm not saying that maybe the best thing to happen is to get rid of the principal, I was just trying to put out the students point of view and how they feel about it. There are alot of kids that love this principal and don't really understand what is going on. It would be for the best to get rid of this administration and get some new people in this school and start focusing on what is important, education!!

After reading all the posts from both sides of the coin, I still can't understand why the Police was not called. Like the Mayor said, They have to report it!!! My oldest daughter moved from Hartshorne school to attend Haileyville, and went on to become a cheerleader the last couple of her high school years. The school was a decent and respectful place to educate your children then. She is now 27 and boy has things changed in those few years! I am outraged!!!! My grandson goes to school there now and I am embarrassed to say he does. School officials carrying loaded guns, bringing alcohol to school functions, Not reporting a gun being fired on school property, or worse than that, one being brought to school and teachers knowing about it and doing nothing and hiring a convicted Killer. Whats next? If you remember they didnt take the Columbine shooters serious either, and see what happened! Another post said " if it's not reported it didnt happen, They are right! What is wrong with these people? It doesnt sound like we are talking about a school, but instead, a do as you please free for all. I understand we are a small town and things are a little more relaxed here, but things like this should be taken seriously, regardless of who the children belong to!! Think about this, if another student wants to do something now that is "NOT ALLOWED", They will, due to the simple fact that nothing will happen, this incident paved the way for more incidents and some could be far worse, like someone getting killed or seriously hurt. I know that all children can't be put in the same category, and don't misunderstand, Im not saying all are capable of doing such things, but some are. I am so outraged at this point and before I say something that I may regret, Im going to close tis post. I just hope that the people involved step up and be responsible for the sake of our Children.

Did anyone bother to read the article in The Oklahoman written by Michael Kimball where Mr. Hemphill openly admitted he KNEW it was a felony that had been committed by this student and as a reserve police officer from Clayton, Oklahoma
HE chose to cover for the student. Is this not a crime for an officer who is sworn to serve and protect to sweep a felony under a rug? I bet the people of Clayton, Oklahoma feel real safe after hearing this.

It's obvious that the shooter(s) were protected.
This is NOT the first gun type incident that has happened at or around the Haileyville School. In the past 3-4 years, there were two other incidents that occured. The first one was a high school student about age 15 or so got mad and threatened to go home and get a gun and come back. He went home and the school went on lockdown. He did not return, thank God. The other student that got mad went home and got a bb gun and shot at students at the playground. This student was around 10 or so?
I thank the Lord that he only had a bb gun and not a handgun or rifle. But as anyone can see there is massive problems in the Haileyville School. Is there not one organization that will step up to the plate and help this community? Where is the FBI or OSBI when you need them? Will it take a child being killed before anyone will pay attention to what has occured in Haileyville? Will someone please help before a life is taken?

NOT THAT FAR INTO THE MEAT!! I know for a fact that you can kill something with a .22. First of all my dad has two .22 bullets in him from accidents. And a few years back there was a Game Warden killed by a .22 bullet. You need to learn something about guns!

I know the convited felon and know the circumstances . He has paid his debt and lives with what happened many years ago . He has raised a family , has a loving wife of many years and hasn't harmed a fly including my children whom have grown up around him !!!!! Let he who is without sin cast the first stone .
Report a crime to Haileyville Police dept.? Are you serious ? Ask me about an incident a few years back when our Cheif was an Officer . No I didn't vote for him this election and I will campaign against him next election with all I have . He is a JOKE !!!! We have the BEST Mayor but as for the Cheif of Police , too funny .
Our school system has gone down hill and any incident regarding a firearm on school property should be dealt with with the utmost seriousness regardless of who you are , staff or student !!!

What would be even sadder is if that stray bullet ( what goes up must come down ) had of hit a child and we would have had counselors at the school and a funeral service to attend !!!! KEEP THAT IN MIND AND PRAY ANOTHER FIREARM IS NEVER ON SCHOOL PROPERTY AGAIN !!!! Pray to that your child has a staff smart enough to have a NO TOLERANCE POLICY NO MATTER WHO IT MIGHT BE !!!!

Well first of all, being a parent, and second a pastor things concerned me about the safety and well-being of our kids in the school system. To cover things up if indeed true is disturbing. Hear all the facts before making haste decisions. Eventually, all things will work out and the decisions will handed out and hopefully the right decisions will be made.

I feel that all of this is crazy. I know that if my son was to ever do something like this he would not let someone else cover it up. I guess I just don't understan how anyone as a parent could teach their child that this is ok. And for the ones that think this is nothing and should just be put to rest, open your eyes. Had a child been harmed by the bullet that that was shot into the air, Maybe you would be on the side of the rest of the mothers, fathers, and grand parents of the other students that go to Haileyville school. I my self never went to Haileyvill school but my son does and I would rather my son not be tought by the people that think this is ok. It is sad to me that the ones that are here to up hold the law are the ones teaching our children that if you know the right people you can get away with anything...With all that said i would like to thank all of you that are doing everything you can to make sure that this type of thing don't happen again. I sure hope that the outcome of this is the right one.

The right one would be to excuse Mr. Hempill and Mr.(I use lightly) Caughern from their possitions and make sure they dont get the chance to be in this possition again! They think they are above the law. They have both done several things that they should have been repremanded for but the Board of Education at Haileyville just keep sticking their head in the sand and let it go on. From what I understand their kids get away with everything in return. It is so bad there that one of the board members has home schooled their child. Go figure the school is OK but not good enough for their own child! Lets not forget it is not just the administration that is covering things there is also the Board and lets not forget, what about the ag teacher that was supposed to be teaching these students at the time of the accident. If they were in class like they were supposed to be this would never have happend!!!
