There was another student involved who did not get discaplend at all. He is the one that brought the shells. The other had the gun and they went out to the truck and loaded it and shot it towards the emplty field next to the preschool and kindergarten buildings. The subject of loading and firing the gun was all talked about in front of the ag teacher and not sure but was told 2 other staff members where in the building. It is funney that they teach hunter safety and also have just recv a skeet shooting grant. Do you trust them with your child and a gun!

Sounds like a couple of years ago when the Jenks Middle School didn't call the police when they found a suicidal girl that tried to hang herself from a bathroom stall. Sweep it under the rug they will!!

Schools are different entities. People need to research about schools. The school doesn't have to notify law enforcement on most matters concerning students.

I have a feeling that the students involved were probably children of someone in the community that has influence and made sure the incident was kept quiet. That's the way they do things in a small town. It's not what you know, but who you know and that's all that matters in backwoods, OK.

1. Handbook should be changed. 2. Lack of "common sense" and disregard for the Law should result the in the termination of the Principal and Superintendent! Welcome to another Columbine with that lack of leadership. They just want to hide their problems.

seems to me that the handbook for haileyville says that the authorities are supposed to be called, then the principal can hand down punishment, these are state and federal laws as well, they should definately be in troubl(super and principal.)

According to Oklahoma School law all weapons confiscated by school officials must be turned over to the police. This was not done. Regardless of what the school officials are trying to claim they did not follow their own policy which states that the police must be notified if appropriate, cooperate with police, and surrender weapons to the police. The offense of bringing a firearm on school property is a felony punishable by 2 years in prison and a five thousand dollar fine. The superintendent has specific instructions from the school board to report all violations of Oklahoma criminal statutes. Although the high school principal is a reserve certified police officer in another town and another county he has no authority whatsoever in Haileyville. Reserves' authority extends only to their city and when they are authorized by their police force. The rest of the time they are called a regular citizen. Knowing the school officials involved in this incident I am not in the least bit surprised that the law was not followed and common sense was not used.

This is only the tip of the iceburg for this superintendent. He also hired a convicted felon to work at the school. There is also a special audit report that is public record from the last school where he worked.

Hartshorne is right. This is only the tip of the iceberg for this superintendent. He ran his last school into the ground and still laughs about it. The Haileyville School Board was warned about him but hired him anyway 3 years ago. They continue to rehire him and even give him raises. He makes a little over $90,000 now while the school is suffering. He wrote his own contract. He hired a friend of his to be the school auditor. Only 1 board member has tried to do something about him. He is running off all of the good teachers and hiring rejects and misfits who have worked for him before. He hired a convicted murderer who had killed the math teacher's mother-in-law. When the math teacher objected, he told her she could leave. He repeatedly threatens school employees with their jobs if they ever say anything about him or what happens at the school. He can't silence the kids and parents. The special audit report from his last school is available from the state auditor web site.

Listen, We're not all a bunch of "dumb rednecks" down here. I go to school at Hartshorne, Oklahoma (a mile from Haileyville). While I can see why everyones freaking about this you people need to realize that your not getting the whole story! While I think there should be some punishment to the students the reason they didnt report this is becuase it was fired with to officials there and when the administration found out they saw that it wasnt a "school shooting" they tried to give the kids a second chance.

It doesnt make it right and mistakes where made by certain individuals but stop judging a community on the actions of a few people!

Btw I DO back up the fact that they shouldve reported it to the police. I gave my opinion on why they probably DID it but not what they SHOULDVE done.

Just thought I'd make myself clear before everyone jumped on me

Most of you DO NOT know the facts at all, and are making a big deal out of something small. I attend school there and probably know more about this then most of you. They didn't want that being a big deal, when nothing bad happened and nothing bad was intended. Though I admit the admin isn't very good. That incident was small.

This is not the 1st incident at Haileyville schools. The superintendant is under investigation by the state, The principal has had sexual relations with others that were not his wife at other schools as well as brought alcohol to a school function ( facutily fucntion but still).

Ask around and you will find answers that will suprise you about what actually happens at that school.

When will we have enough of these types of personell involved with our children and who has the authority to stop it ??

Call Sandy Garret in OKC and post complaints !!!

Just so that you are aware it was a .22 cal but this is also a true fact. If a .22 was shot into the head it would do a racetrack around not produce an exit wound. This weapon is prefered by those who do "wet work" for the quietness and lack of blood spray it causes. So it could have been a big deal.
