Coontash, the flipping on of the light switch is ceremonial only. The lights won't actually come on until dark. I agree with you though, wouldn't it be better to have this ceremony at night? That way, when Mayor Bartlett flips the switch the lights can actually be seen coming on.

Maybe Doobie will make it a really joyous occasion and resign at the same time.

I thought that was crazy when they did this. Not only that why would the city be reliable for the accidents. You can be sued if some one wrecks.

Why does it take so many people and a special ceremony to turn on a light switch? I count 9 people in the picture and I'm sure there are many more there, most of which are probably city employees. I would hate to be paying their wages to set up, watch, and tear down some b/s light ceremony, especially when it is all in the name of saving money. I would hate to see what the city would do if they were trying to spend money. Just walk out there and flip the @#$& switch!

It's nice to have them coming back on. Not from a safety standpoint but more for looks. Havering dark roads is very uninviting and just looks horrid to out of town people. The no lights and horrid streets I wonder how many events are not coming back or ones that would have come passed.
As for the ceremony why? And how much did we over spend to have it?

LOL the Mayor doesn't have time to go to the city council meetings but he does have time for an immature little grandiose "ceremony" turning the lights back on. Give it a rest Dewey. You do anything here. Give up Simonson and his salary and do the job yourself. Or give up your salary and don't replace it anywhere else. Mow a field for the cameras. Now that I would like to see.
