This story is a joke. It gave not date just saying it was before 9-11. UBL was offered to the US a couple of times. But Bill Clinton turned them down. That fact alone we have known for 10 yrs. Bill Clinton said it himself.

Which means, if that is the case, then the Taliban had no hand in 911.

Looks like we got the wrong guys -- AGAIN!

Great way to flush a trillion dollars down the drain.

I have often wondered, if we surgically went after the perps, where this country would be today. Better off or worse?

This is unsuprising. George Bullshit's regime always intended to invade no matter what.

What I don't get it why the Taliban said nothing until now. We know the US government lied and US media were complicit lapdogs, but why wasn't this publicized by the Taliban if they knew? Or did everyone deliberately ignore it, a voluntary censorship by the media?

After working for a major daily newspaper in the states for ten years, and watching the unfolding of how we got ourselves in a three front war, yes, it is voluntary censorship by the media and pure frigging laziness.

The press, for the most part was printing word for word what the NY Times was saying, the Times was printing what the government fed them. The opposition was buried in the stories or the paper and barely got noticed.

People, for the most part, get their news from headlines. About a third of the people read the first three paragraphs of the story. A very small fraction reads the whole story. So you can see it is easy to say, "yes we have freedom of the press" but it is not freedom when they are knowingly burying the opposition.

Last, the press is the only business that is constitutionally protected. They are the last check in our check and balance system. They are supposed to be the overseers of our government. Yet they are doing a pissszz poor job of fulfilling their Constitutional duty. But what would you expect when there are only a few people who control our press today.

Not quite. The Taliban harbored al Qaeda. The training for the 9/11 attacks went on in Afghanistan. If the Taliban wanted to turn them over it wasn't because they were morally opposed to Bin Laden. Nonetheless, we went in to Afghanistan to destroy al Qaeda. That was the right decision. Iraq, on the other hand, was wrong.

They said it at the time, but the media and Americans ignored it.

Do you believe everything you read in the news?

Do you selectively believe what our government and press feeds us, while not believing other parts?

I sure as hell don't and I worked for a major daily for ten years.

Either you are a tool or your not, you can't have it both ways.

Good point and you are right.

Al-Jazeera says Robert Grenier, the CIA station chief in Pakistan at the time of 9/11, confirms that such proposals were made to U.S. officials.

Once the smoke clears, we learn more of the truth. In the feeding frenzy that led to these wars, we were looking for something to kill. In the end, we all won by becoming murderers.

=====

We could have gone another route. We could have built on the profound sympathy and empathy that swept through the world following the attacks. The revulsion over the crimes that took place 10 years ago, including in the Muslim world, where I was working in the weeks and months after 9/11, was nearly universal. The attacks, if we had turned them over to intelligence agencies and diplomats, might have opened possibilities not of war and death but ultimately reconciliation and communication, of redressing the wrongs that we commit in the Middle East and that are committed by Israel with our blessing. It was a moment we squandered. Our brutality and triumphalism, the byproducts of nationalism and our infantile pride, revived the jihadist movement. We became the radical Islamist movement’s most effective recruiting tool. We descended to its barbarity. We became terrorists too. The sad legacy of 9/11 is that the assholes, on each side, won.

I am pretty sure YOU never killed a soul! Anyway, you have fallen into this " blame it on Israel" rant or "we deserved 9-11' BS. Newsflash, they hate us. If it wasn't Gitmo,it would be Iraq or supporting Israel or the crusades. It don't matter. They hate us ,they are raised to hate everything and everybody that don't bow to Islam. This will continue until someone wins! Winning to them is a world under the banner of Islam. Get that through your head, the sooner the better. So we can fight this war and at least act like we want to win! Because they da*n sure are!

I am against you, and your kind of unabashed nationalism.

China is not the enemy, we are our own enemy.
