I love the gulf coast. The most beautiful beaches in the world! I am feeling sad for all of the people living in this area and thriving off of the ocean. A very critical time for thousands of people and animals. My heart goes out to all of you.

Don't cancel your Destin vacation. There are other things to do in Destin that don't involve water. Check out http://www.tripshock.com and see what activities they have to offer.

If I were from the UK, I would NOT even visit the Gulf Coast for a long time. After what British Petro did, I wouldn't be surprised to see residents of the REDNECK RIVIERA burning British flags and smashing CD's of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Who etc & locals at the bar throwing darts at pictures of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles like the Rhode Island burnouts did to David Cassidy's photo in the movie "Outside Providence". And if David Beckham were to show up in Mobile, Alabama; the good old boys who love ALABAMA & AUBURN FOOTBALL would do very bad things to him & make what happened to Maury & Frankie Carbone in "Goodfellas" look like an Amish baby's baptism. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!

May 9…The most recent NOAA tracking maps show the oil slick moving westward away from Destin. Guests are continuing to book vacation condos in Destin. The NOAA tracking map can be seen here:

Now, that's how to run a business. People will be glad to rent from them again. I have rented a place in Panama City Beach in June with Ocean Reefs Resorts. They are not working with their clients at all! I even took out the travel insurance. Needless to say, they just lost this customer for future rentals (and anyone I know, too). I've rented from them many times in the past, but this is ridiculous. If they lose money because of cancellations, they can file claims with BP. I will look to doing business with Five Star next time. Thanks for sharing this info.

just saw this in local newspaper

FORT WALTON BEACH –South winds are bringing oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill to the Emerald Coast, in the form of the odor of burning oil.

Okaloosa County Public Safety sent out a press release at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to notify the public that the odors people are noticing are from Wednesday’s burning operations. There are no reports of oil offshore, however.

Hope this helps any of you, so no oil on the beach, but if the wind is unfavorable it appears we will be effected with the smell of it

We have been here for the past week....first we spent some time in Destin and now we are in a penthouse condo right on Panama city beach. No signs of oil spill. We have seen dolpins swim from our balcony every afternoon. Yesterday, My son and I went on a jet ski dolphin tour...the waters were clear. I have no idea when the oil will reach this beautifull coast line, but keep on praying that God will save these beautiful beaches. I almost cancelled our vacation...I'm so glad I did not cancel.
One thing I have to say about Panama city beach is...it really is all about the beach...I would not want to be here, if the oil reaches the beach. But for now PLEASE keep a close eye on the news and hold off before cancelling. The waters are beautifull and the sand is white as sugar.

we are coming to destin next week...no matter what...i suspect by the end of our trip we will begin to see the effects in destin. actually, i want my kids to see it! i want them to see how careless we as a people can be for the sake of the almighty dollar and i want them to see the destruction themselves....it will be unforgetable and heartbreaking but maybe prompt them as they grow older to FIGHT FOR CHANGES and to save the ocean from future ignorance!!! lets break out the horses for a month and screw the oil giants!!! i for one would love to ride my horse to work! I have been coming to florida since i was a kid and i am OUTRAGED!!!!! maybe it will reach washington!

I urge everyone who loves the Gulf and it's animals to contact our government via email or phone and tell them what you think. If we all raise our voices in unison we may make a difference. I have personally called the President and Gov. Crist concerning the lack of involvment of our government dealing with this oil spill. I have also attended training to help with the clean up. I can honestly tell you that the training is a joke! It's done through BP and it is shallow. The whole thing makes me sick!!!!!
For the love of the Gulf,BOYCOTT BP !!
