The massive privatizations, tax-cuts, and other neoliberal policies the current government enacted have brought financial hardship to many. Scapegoating is as old as civilization, as uncivilized as that indeed is. And, those of foreign origins, the native minorities - both are typical targets.

Of course, while scapegoating does distract from the genuine problems, and does allow the majority population to vent their frustration, it simply allows the cause of the very real pain being felt to simply continue. Not good, not good at all...
