Albania is not expected to join the EU until 2015 at the earliest. It formally applied for membership on 28 April 2009.

Since 15 December 2010 Albanians with biometric passports have been able to travel visa-free to the Schengen zone, which includes most EU countries.

Border controls are minimal under the Schengen accord, but the EU will keep a close watch on the flow of visitors from the Western Balkans.

EU governments say strengthening the rule of law and combating organised crime and corruption remain "urgent challenges" for Albania.

The EU and Albania concluded a Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), seen as the first step towards membership, in June 2006.

Serbia praises Irans resolve to achieve its goals

TEHRAN Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic says he respects Iran for its determination to push ahead with its plans.

Jeremic made the remarks during a recent meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Mahdi Akhoundzadeh, who made a trip to Belgrade to attend a ceremony held on Monday and Tuesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movements first summit.

I deeply respect Iran for its history and determination (to achieve its goals), he said.

We understand your situation because we have also been a target of propaganda campaign, he stated.

He also pointed to the issue of international recognition of Kosovo and thanked Iran for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

Iran is among of the countries which have not formally recognized Kosovo as an independent state.

Akhoundzadeh also criticized major powers for adopting double-standard policies on international developments and taking advantage of issues such as human rights and democracy to achieve their objectives.

Iran is a pariah state. And Serboslavia will pay dearly for their support of this country's nuclear bombs.
