Bush backs NATO bids by Ukraine, Georgia

Unflinching from a fight, President Bush said Tuesday he fully supports proposals to put ex-Soviet states Ukraine and Georgia on the road toward joining NATO despite French and German qualms it would upset relations with Moscow.

No kidding... Forget NATO all together. A toothless, spineless organization now redundant. All it does is suck our tax dollars and keeps the local economies of our European "allies" while our own bases close down and our local economies suffer.

With strong economies and militaries like the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland, does anyone think the Europeans can't take care of themselves?

Geez, it is time to leave Europe. Just pull out and let them get over-run by the muslins they invited in. Re-deploy our forces to the middle-east where the oil is. All that is worth while in Europe is just more STD's and inflated egos.

I would pull out of Korea and Okinawa while we are at it.

This is a bad idea. I am glad that the Ukraine now has freedom, but this is like Canada entering into a military alliance with Russia. How would the US feel about that? Russia is very angry about this. The consequences of this backfiring can be dire.

I can care less about what Russia thinks, they're just upset because they don't have the prestige of being a super power like they were once before, and don't like the idea of their former Soviet territories allying with us, it's like a slap in the face to them.

I don't think the U.S. should even be in NATO, we shouldn't even have our Armed Forces in Europe anymore.

Let the Europeans take care of themselves.

EXACTLY! Where his brother Neil co-owns and operates a software business. Now you see why Bush has no intention of boycotting the Olympics in Beijing or atleast, not going to see the ceremony (Which will be alot of tax money for our Commander-in-Chief to be using, especially after spending it on his current European trip), he doesn't want to put his family's wealth in jeopardy, which he seems to have more importance for than his country.

And how can the USA pretend it matters in Europe without NATO? Not being part of the EU we kept NATO to look like a player there. When the Wall fell that was the only purpose.

Exactly. Blind or stupid these bureaucrats are with keeping us in Europe. The EU also has a defense organization which is secondary to NATO, why can't the EU defense organization take over the responsibilities and we get the hell out of Europe? The people there keep crying they don't want us there, so lets oblige them. See how content they'd be when their local economies suffer.
