I find it extraordinary that crocodiles are protected whilst kangaroos are routinely culled. For what purpose should we protect crocs?

Crocs are apex predators, like sharks they keep the population of other animals in check.

They are oportunistic and can go without food for months, so not really regulators of population

Which animals do they keep in check? They don't eat rabbits or toads or kangaroos, which are the only animals in plague proportions that I can think of.

Unlikely. Corocodiles are intelligent creatures with acute sense of smell. If an Indian came within 100 meters the stench would be too much and the croc will leave the area, this is why I always keep an Indian in the car boot incase I feel like having a swim

Crocs throughout their lives eat lots of animals.
Roos & wallabies, birds, frogs, snakes, rabbits, fish, pigs, goats, sheep, cattle, dogs, cats, horses, sharks, humans, outboard motors :) & usually anything else they can get hold of.
If they overpopulate an area & food becomes scarce they eat each other.
How many of those they actually keep in check I don't know.

True, that happens normally.
Others will eat each other if starving, pretty rare though I think.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Capricorn

You're keen to look on the bright side of things and to ignore anything unpleasant or worrying. That's fine, provided that you're ready to face up to life's difficulties again tomorrow. But it's not such good news if you persist in looking the other way whenever a problem presents itself, especially if it's connected with your work or health. It may be time to face a few facts, Capricorn.
