Wonder who will contribute those tax payments to keep the Chavs in beer and ciggies now the Poles are leaving?

==========

Indeed, one can argue that Poles have brought with them something far more important than just a way with the towel-rail: a no-nonsense ethic that mines a deep nostalgia in Britain for an age of hard-working, Hovis-delivering simplicity. In an age of financial products so complex that even the bankers don't understand them, that outlook is sure to grow more popular still.

"The Polish influx was like importing our parents' generation into today's UK," says Paul Statham, professor of sociology at Bristol University. "It has been about values – a mass arrival of people with traditional values that have been eroded here."

Allied with "a Catholic way of viewing the world, with family and community values at its centre", Prof Statham argues that Poles have effected a "basic cultural trend".

"Simple things like being treated politely in bars and restaurants had all but disappeared before Poles arrived in large numbers to work here. Now that has changed and will remain changed. Britain is changing itself."

So farewell, fair Poles. Thank you for the economy (while we still had one) and the healthcare, and the farmwork. But most of all, thank you for a reminder of the good old days. As the recession bites, they will look better and better.

HT, if i may, one can not exclude all the others..
contribution of eastern workers to UK economy had been substantial !
also, one has to ask who´s going to do all those menial jobs since many are leaving ?
experienced acquired by all of them, just by being in UK will be very beneficial in these regions, i feel.

Put it this way, if all the Poles in Britain left now, the tax revenue to the exchequer would plummet, and businesses would close through inability to find replacement labour and skills. Britain unfortunately has a certain percentage of what we call work shy idlers, or shirkers, who are absolutely incapable of doing a decent days work. In many sections, British society would grind to a halt.

As for Poland, their own industry is coming to a halt due to lack of workers and they are having to go to Germany and the Ukraine to find substitutes. If you want to build in Poland, you will have a difficult task indeed to find a Polish builder. Hopefully this situation will now be rectified and more people come home.

It was a benefit to Poland in the first year or two. Now it is a major hindrance. I hope both countries have learned their lessons well.

Poles could come and work in auto industries in Slovakia anytime !
even next year, KIA is to build plant for motor manufacturing, plenty of jobs to be had there.
because of skilled labour is hard to get these days, so if those producers want to stay in business, perhaps wages must come up a bit in these regions, i feel.
Slovak auto worker makes aroung 700,-euros/month, i´d say 15-20 % increase is needed here !
building boom in Slovakia slowly decreases, who knows when the next one comes again ?
somehow, you keep neglecting all the other eastern workers in UK as if polaks were the only one there, almost 200000 Slovaks were in UK !

Indeed they did! Took them from a river in East London, killed them, and cooked them on a fire on the river bank !

How typical of an eastern European to post such a flippant comment! Just goes to prove how backward you lot are!

And it's your ilk who act surprised when the Brits distrust and dislike you. Scum.

That's a nice new picture Pesky. Did you paint it? Notice it's got the old bonsai there too. Nice!

Yeah old man Lee's a stunner really. I'll not comment though, you know how much I hate that common trashy mentality specific to a certain group of people.

Try some chavs from the English council estates. If you asked them to dig a hole they start picking at their ass :)

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Cancer

It's a sensational Full Moon in your sign, combined with a lunar eclipse! Holy cow! However, once you accept that even the best-laid plans could go awry today, you'll find that life is a lot easier to cope with. Try your hardest to take everything in your stride, even if you do have to rethink an arrangement at the eleventh hour. At least it's never a dull moment! Do your best not to let the tensions of the day spoil what promises to be some spectacular New Year's Eve celebrations. It will be an opportunity to let off steam. Have fun!
